Should we be worried?

While reading through some back issues ofNews of the Weird, I came across this:

“And the CEO of Diebold Inc., a leading manufacturer of voting machines that register votes through the company’s unique technology, committed to support President Bush’s re-election and wrote a fund-raising letter for Ohio Republicans (August). [Plain Dealer, 8-28-03]”
I guess GWB needs all the help he can get!

How is this any different then other company CEO’s supporting Dubya?

Sorry, I was being ironic. I guess I thought the previous voting machine brewhaha would be remembered.

There’s an old quote, attributed Josef Stalin (among others,) that says, “The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.” If you like, I can politely dance around the point some more.

Yes we should be worried.

I think the voting machine contracts should only go to manufacturers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
I mean other that Haliburton and Bechtel.

Ahh, I see. You mean like those doing the recount in Florida?

Whoosh!

I’m worried. But I’m strangely comforted that this issue was raised in News of the Weird.

In any case, what’s needed is a guaranteed paper trail.
