I have a tiny PC* that’s directly connected to my Internet backbone (I’m an ISP) and I just remoted in and got 6.66Mbit/sec from testmyspeed and 186.55Mbit/sec from speedtest. I can tell you that I definitely don’t prioritize traffic to myspeed (or anywhere else) and I doubt that the 50 or more gigabit or faster peers we have do, either.

I think there’s something wrong with testmyspeed.

  • This is a MicroATX system with a puny Atom 330 CPU and a crab chip network interface. It doesn’t have the oomph to push more than 200Mbit/sec or so onto the wire.

Speedtest tells me 17.78 mb/s

TestMySpeed tells me 30.62 mb/s

I pay for 30 mb broadband so I’m fairly happy with these results.
