Show me your dishes

Thanks - I can’t recommend it highly enough, it’s really beautiful. If you’re anywhere near a Crate&Barrel, go see it in person. Because of the glazing technique, every dish comes out a little different.

mischievous

I have the Williams-Sonoma Brasserie like Sarafeena’s only I have the blue stripe.

My formal china is from Lenox- the Hancock pattern with the black stripe.

My crystal is Gorham Lady Anne, and my silver is Christofle Malmaison. But I never use it.

I have this for everyday … Fiesta. One place setting in each of the current colors available when we built the set about a year or so ago including the various service pieces I could afford when the local Dillards closed down to relocate last year. (Quite a steal actually so I kind of over did it.)

I inhereted a set of this from my maternal Great Grandmother. Supposedly acquired one piece at a time from the local A&P in the 50’s. Royal China Currier and Ives. Haven’t eaten on them in over a decade, but they are on display for the sentimental value.

summer blush

I love my summer blush dishes…it’s discontinued but I’ve been getting pieces here and there.

Here’s a seller’s page from Ebay in Germany that shows my pattern:

My crap set is Mikasa Rio Grande which I hate with the burning rage of 10,000 suns. My dad bought it for himself and then a month later decided to move out of the country and didn’t want to take it with, so I ended up with it, and I was too cheap to say no. And it never breaks! That was always my thing, that I would replace it when it broke, and it’s been years now.

When I finally break it myself, I will find something mostly white – I feel the same way that Zabali_Clawbane does, all food looks great on white plates.

My good stuff is a vintage Limoges. That picture is a pretty good match, although it’s hard to tell exactly with those photos. White with a very narrow gold band. I love them so much that they are my everyday set at our summer cottage. You have to drink out of plastic cups with cartoon characters on them from 7-11, but you will eat your grilled burger off Limoges. They’re so delicate that you can practically see right through them when you hold them up, but they’re surprisingly sturdy.

Here’s my everyday stuff. Also by Corning, but heavier than Corelle. Indestructible. Mom bought it in the '70s. I still really like it.

There are lots of lovely patterns out there in Doperland, I see.

GT

Me too!

Those are my everyday dishes. For entertaining, I have these.

And for entertainment purposes, I still have the testicle plates.

We have fiesta too - in persimmon (the reddish orange) and aqua. I love it so much - it just makes me happy to look at it, and it’s virtually indestructable.

We haven’t got a formal set, and I can’t imagine us ever needing one.

Oh, thank you! I really like it. Took a long, long time for my husband and I to agree on a pattern, but I think we are both pretty happy with it.

I have this stoneware service for 12 that was my parents. My mom gave it to me when I moved in to my first apartment. Now I rarely use it, only when I know I need mor than 8 plates to serve dinner.

The stuff that is for everyday is my cobalt blue Fiesta Ware.

Our everyday stuff is a mix of plain white basic nearly unbreakable corelle ware from Target, a few thrift store and grocery store finds, and several pretty green heavy-duty plastic plates that came from Cost Plus World Market a few years ago.

The fancy stuff, of which we have 8 table settings and several serving dishes of various types, is this. I bought four settings and a serving dish or two in Chinatown in SF about four years ago because I wanted nice dishes and didn’t want to wait 'til I got married. I’ve been adding settings and serving dishes over the last couple of years, buying pieces here and there when I go back to CA for visits. I think we’re pretty much set now. I’ve seen it sold at World Market and some fancy kitchen stores on occasion, but I paid a lot less for it in Chinatown.

That’s right, that was you! I was at a friend’s little rental house the other day, and she has testicle wallpaper! She didn’t pick it out or anything, it was already in the kitchen. I might not have noticed, had it not been for that thread so long ago, but as it was, I just couldn’t stand in her kitchen surrounded by the swollen greenish yellow testicles dangling all over the wallpaper (along with grapes and lemons and I don’t know what else, because all I could see were TESTICLES!!!) I told her about your plates and now she can’t go into her kitchen without laughing, either.

Wow! Yes, it is although in reality it’s more sort of blue than green but that’s definitely the design. Isn’t it amazing, you can get replacement bits in the US but I couldn’t find a source for it here? Mum tried a few years ago to get a couple of extra bits for her set but couldn’t get it anywhere, even RD’s factory told her they couldn’t get any.

My formal china can’t be linked to - it was my grandmother’s from Sweden. I will take a picture tonight and post it tomorrow if you’d like.

This is the every day crap. Courtesy WalMart cheap. But it works and doesn’t break. And can you tell we couldn’t agree on any pattern?

I have a few serving pieces of this stuff that my mom gave me that we grew up with.

I have some pieces that are tan, really heavy, with brown and orange flowers on them that I don’t remember the name of. LVGeogeek’s looks VERY close - this is almost it but in a different color.

And we have blue and white ceramic chili bowls from Marlboro, and the tin blue and white plates.

These are our every day plates. We inherited a bunch from my husband’s mother and then bought tons more at a Mikasa outlet. My husband’s cousin uses the same plates as her special occasion plates. I really love them.

We don’t have any special china.

Everyday: Fiesta, in four colors: cobalt, sunflower, shamrock, and persimmon (or blue, yellow, green, and orange, if you prefer). My wife would have preferred a red color over the orange, but “Scarlet” didn’t come out until a year after we were married. Anyway, in addition to the usual plates and bowls, we also have a lot of serving and accessory pieces in the same colors, including cream and sugar servers, gravy boat, pitchers, platters, serving bowls, pedestal bowls, chili bowls, and big honkin’ mugs.

Fancy: Noritake Regina Platinum. We have the scalloped accent plates for each setting, too, which really makes it look elegant.

There are the every day plates - Pfaltzgraff Merlot. Retired about 5 minutes after I got them (I’m good like that - I pick out a dish, crystal or silver pattern, and poof - they no longer make it). I regret buying these - some of the plates have marks on them from the silverware and I cannot get them off - and I’ve tried a whole bunch of things.

The formal china is the Lenox Hayworth - just a simple ivory plate with a narrow gold band.

I meant to post this earlier…we must have very similar taste…not only do we have the same everyday china, but your formalware was one of our serious contenders, as well! Isn’t that funny?

Love those Wasabis, baby!
