Show of hands-- who hates cling wrap?

Saran wrap does fine as long as you’re not dealing with certain plastic containers. Metal bowl + saran wrap = good seal.

Press and Seal is truly evil shit. The adhesive is too weak to stick to much of anything.

Who hates cling wrap?

I do! I do!

Speak it, sistah, speak it!

I, too, like those little shower cap covers. I can still find them at the dollar store in my area. I wash and reuse them, too, and they last a while. Perfect for the containers that don’t fit into a baggie and for items set out on a picnic table f’rinstance.

I have converted all my permanent storage containers to the Lock N Lock brand. Those things are awesome and indestructible. Food stays fresh much longer in them as well. But they aren’t cheap and if I am silly enough to take them to an event where you leave your dish and pick it up later, they never seem to find their way home. For such occasions, it is cheap plastic serving bowls and “shower caps” for me.

My mother used to be able to wrangle cling wrap with aplomb, but I did not inherit the skill.

I always had a hard time tearing plastic wrap, waxed paper, or aluminum foil along the serrated cutting blade.

UNTIL I accepted that, left-handed or not, the cutter blade WAS going to require me to use it as though I were right-handed.

Hmm… I wonder if that has anything to do with my problem. I’m right handed, but is the plastic wrap supposed to be cut in a certain direction?

Costco for the win. That and knowing how to use the stuff, as Athena posted.

Oddly enough, my college Spanish professor said the his own brother invented the stuff while working for Dow. With a little research, I could probably get you his name. Given that I was in college the late 70’s and it was invented in 1949, its probably a little too late to exact revenge.

It’s great for preventing the spread of herpes and genital warts.

I used to like it but this last box will be my last. I must have spent 15 minutes trying to find the start of the roll when I opened it.

I have trouble tearing cling wrap.

It does a nice job sealing food on plates.
I often put leftovers on a clean plate. Then my meals are ready to heat the next day. Remove cling wrap, cover with paper towel, and microwave.

Saves dirtying a bowl and then serving on a plate.

Cling wrap works great on bowls and plates. It doesn’t do as well on pie pans or loaf pans.

Well, it’s already been said, but I will add my voice: the generic brand doesn’t rip off with a darn. A name brand, there is a 50-50 chance of tearing off a length. Every dollar store sells the bowl covers/shower caps, good for covering a bowl - but I use the plastic containers with lids more often. I suppose they aren’t good for your health and an environmental problem, but they ARE recyclable here (as are those Big Gulp soda cups at the 7-11). And I am way old, so I don’t care if the plastic containers are healthy or not.
