shows canceled first season- that should not have been canceled.

^ The Paula Marshall curse strikes again.

Space: Above And Beyond.

I always wanted to know how the war with the Chigs turned out.

And, +1 to My So Called Life, mentioned earlier. That show was ahead of its time.

I liked that show, but I think it was a “limited series.” I don’t think it was ever intended to last more than one (short) season. Even that was too much for the network to handle, and they stopped airing episodes well before the finale. They eventually put the missing episodes on the Internet.

I think “Time After Time” on ABC deserved more than a 4 week run.

“Vinyl” on HBO disintegrated from bad writing but the acting was good enough to earn a second season.

Despite wretched ratings I’m hoping AMC will stick with low rated but well reviewed series and let “Lodge 49” get a second season.

Great show but no matter how you explain it, the American viewer is not going to get into a show tied into the death of animals, especially horses, in any way, whatsoever.

Someone mentioned The Riches. GREAT Show and very influential. It was a Breaking Bad, Ozark, Sneaky Pete and other “family in criminal crisis” storyline show before any of those programs aired.

One correction: it lasted 2 seasons.

What did you think of “Pacific Heat”?

I think there are too many loose ends to claim it wasn’t going to be a regular series. There were indications that Digg’s character’s father had the same ability, and there was a recurring character (the screaming guy in the hospital) who seemed to know time was repeating and was trying to reach out to the lead.

Never heard of it, but maybe I’ll check out an episode. I should note that Moonbeam City’s funky Nagel-style artwork was half the fun, so if you took that away I probably wouldn’t have liked it.

That’s a good one.

There was one I can’t recall the name- it took place in England but was about an impending meteor coming to hit the earth. There was a quirky plot arc about the main character trying to find his indexical evil brother who may or may not have swapped places with him in a secure bunker.

I enjoyed both of those shows. I also enjoyed The Time Tunnel which was killed off because some high muckety muck wanted his favorite stupid new show about Custer to take its place. Custer died a quick death, not even lasting one full season.

You, Me and the Apocalypse. And yes, I would have liked to have seen a continuation of that. For one thing, there were some bits that were left unexplained.

Brimstone was a good show.
I would have loved to see how American Gothic would have concluded as well as Shaun Cassidy’s other show Invasion
Harsh Realm
The Event

Nowhere Man is a good example. Frequently lamented, including here on the SDMB.

That’s the one!

I’m partial to quirky shows like that.

Sorry - gotta disagree with this one. I couldn’t make it through the pilot movie before turning off in bored disgust. We called it “Space: 90210.” :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, dammit. There was a huge amount of potential here, especially with Bradley Cooper continuing his role from the film, and a highly likeable lead.

Ehh…I dunno. They didn’t quite get the balance of action and goofiness right and it seriously challenged my suspension of disbelief at several points. I enjoyed it but wouldn’t miss it if it never came back.

Agreed.

I liked the Dirk Gently series with Stephen Mangan and Darren Boyd, and was sorry they didn’t do more with that.

Agreed.

Seriously agreed. Cole absolutely thrived in that, the young boy was surprisingly intense and there was plenty of room for it to develop.

YES (although the Space Marines who were simultaneously pilots and ground troops seemed a little muddled).

I really enjoyed that but the ending of that bothered me. On the one hand, it was a brilliant twist; on the other, it meant that God had been playing a game of “Doofus” all along.

If you like YM&tA, I recommend the two series of “The Wrong Mans” [sic], also with Baynton and with James Corden. Corden is very…Corden-y in it, but the writing is good and it wraps up nicely at the end.

First one I thought of.

Another true one-and-done was Good Girls Revolt from 2015. My TV watching is almost exclusively biased towards comedy, but this is one that sucked me right in so, of course, it had to be cancelled after its first season, when things were getting really interesting in the (based-on-a-true) storyline.

I also thought of Better off Ted but that looks like it actually did make it to a second season before getting the axe. The tone and writing of that show was right in my wheelhouse. I discovered it, of all places, on the in-flight entertainment system, back before everyone just brought their own electronic devices to watch on, and was saddened to find it was either canceled shortly before or shortly thereafter.

The Paper Chase I know it was revived later but it did not last on network TV.

I came here to mention The Playboy Club. Good soapy fun with lots of eye candy. What’s not to like about Amber Heard in a Bunny costume? No, it wasn’t the greatest show ever, but it deserved more than 7 episodes.
