Shows Named After the Character not the Actor

In fact, I can’t think of a British show named after the actor, unless the actor was playing himself/herself (or a person with the same name), e.g., Hancock’s Half Hour (with Tony Hancock the main character played by Tony Hancock).

Another British one; Fawlty Towers.

Will & Grace
Grace Under Fire

The Sopranos

Becker
King of the Hill
Peter Gunn
Get Smart
Welcome Back, Kotter
Charlie’s Angels (even though Charlie remained unseen, he was a character in that he spoke to the Angels)
The Sopranos
Joanie Loves Chachi
McMillan and Wife

Seinfeld, named after the character Jerry Seinfeld. (as played by actor Jerry Seinfeld, but that’s just a funny coincidence)

Gloria (an unsuccessful “All in the Family” spin-off)
Maude (a more successful “All in the Family” spin-off)
Fawlty Towers (the unsuccessful U.S. version)
Payne (an unsuccessful “Fawlty Towers” adaptation)
Hazel (about a maid)
The Jetsons (who had a robot maid)

“Roseanne” is listed upthread. I think that’s kind of cheating, but if it counts than so do “I Love Lucy,” “Here’s Lucy,” “The Lucy Show,” and (shudder) “Life With Lucy.”

Which naturally leads to “Mr. Lucky”.

Which naturally leads to “Mr. Lucky”.

Burke’s Law
Richard Diamond, Private Detective
Cannon

Just realized we have “King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons,” and “The Jetsons,” but not the original:

The Flintstones.

Those are the major primetime, family viewing cartoons. If we included Saturday morning kiddie stuff, we could be here forever.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.
The Rat Patrol (stretching a bit–show named after the 4 man team)

I’m Dickens, He’s Fenster
The Strange Report (yes, the hero (played by Anthony Quayle) was named Strange).
The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis

Sabrina, the Teenage Witch
House of Payne

The A-Team!
Charlie’s Angels!

How could I forget those?!? hangs head in shame
