Showtime at the Apollo 13 at the IMAX

Way back in this thread it was mentioned that Apollo 13 was going to be shown in IMAX format. I just got a chance to see it this afternoon and all I can say is un-bee-leevable!

The launch sequence completely jars you out of your seat. The digital transfer is awesome. There is virtually none of the fuzziness that you would expect from blowing a regular movie up to that size. There are some parts of it where you can almost feel yourself pitching and yawing along with the ship.

The twenty minutes that were cut out are virtually unnoticeable. I don’t know of all the cuts, but the ones I noticed were :

[ul]
[li]The shot of Bill Paxton throwing up inside the command module[/li][li]Kathleen Quinlan in the shower[/li][li]The short altercation with the press guy who wanted to put a sattelite dish on the Lovell’s front lawn[/li][li]I think I remember a shot of Lovell snuggling up to his wife on the lawn chairs before the launch as well that was not in this version[/li][/ul]

None of these cuts affected the film, however, and the dramatic impact is just as real. In fact, it was so real I almost felt myself tearing up at the ending.

Yeah … go see it if you get the chance. It’s definately worth the $11.

Thanks for that. It’s showing at an IMAX that’s 5 minutes from where I live and I definately want to see this.
