Shrek II (Movie) Question...

When the giant gingerbread man is falling in the castle moat for the last time he tells Gingie to “Be Good”. Is this a cultural reference, pop or otherwise, like much of the rest of the series of movies? Just watched it for the billionth time because of my daughter and that part always sticks with me because I don’t know the answer to the above question.

I will probably have to turn in my “hip, man” card and slap my head if/when I find out the answer.

I turn to you, smart(er than me) people.

Isn’t “Be good” what ET says to Drew Barrymore’s character when he’s leaving? From the movie of the same name, of course.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen it and I don’t remember that gingerbread scene, but “Be good” were E.T.'s last words to Elliot before leaving Earth…

That’s what I came in to post. But I thought ET said it to Elliott, not Gertie? It’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie, I could be wrong.

Oops, I see I was ninja’d…

No, he said, “I’ll be right here” to Elliott, while pointing to his (Elliott’s) heart.

I don’t know why I remember this. It’s been years since I’ve seen the movie.

I must be bored, I had to go look it up. It’s near the bottom of the page.

He says, “Be good” to Gertie, and then says “I’ll be right here” to Elliott, while touching his head, not his heart.

You’re right… :smack: I need to re-watch E.T. Also Shrek II while I’m at it, that’s my favorite of the series.

Man, I would have sworn it was the heart. Memory is weird.

Yeah, I was positive it was his heart. I thought ET’s heartlight was glowing, and then pointed to Elliott’s heart.
