Well, now she says that she’s “not a game biologist” (i.e. stop showing all the holes in my story) but let’s make this all about how a woman and mother is being treated poorly and it’s all Gervais’s fault for daring to talk about her.
OMG  He’s smiling. According to some people in this thread, that smile obviously means he’s killed his gram-gram.
And thanks for supplying the pic.
Disagree. Of course the people making death threats and doxxing her acted poorly. Francis also acted poorly by lying about the hunt.
Gervaise did nothing wrong, and the people expressing approval or disapproval of the kill (us included) are doing nothing wrong.
It’s interesting this was a woman hunter. It means the debate was spared cliches about how she was compensating for her small penis, stroking her gun, or sundry examples of Freudian male inadequacies. Or accusations of testosterone poisoning. Or the male need to dominate, indeed penetrate his environment. Not that I particularly disagree with these tropes, especially given that hunting is seen as particularly macho and male dominated, but the difference in the two minute hate approach is interesting.
How about penis envy? Not so much in style among the progressive crowd anymore, but like jello there’s always room for cock in arm chair psychology.
Maybe she wanted to be accepted by her her male peers. She wanted to be taken seriously and not viewed as a “fake hunter” (see: fake nerd/gamer/science girl controversies) so she had to go big or go home. Like those female politicians or CEOs who have to act over the top stereotypically “tough” just to get a foot in the door. She hunts exotic game with a bow, basically saying she ain’t no scrub. So really, she’s a victim of male expectations.
Maybe she collects pictures of herself for social networks of her posing with dead animals and on some level understands that is sort of grotesque, and thus she tried to cover her ass by making up some bullshit stories about being a great white hunter who saved the villagers from starvation by providing the meat of a suffering giraffe?
Maybe it’s just that simple.
What’s this? She changed her mind over a 5 year period? That’s not allowed.
Or is it possible that the situation changed over a 5 year period?
In mu opinion, it’s OK to smile in photographs. Especially when someone points a camera in mu direction and says, “Smile”. I guess I didn’t realize that smiling might be misconstrued as mu admitting that I had stolen the Lindbergh baby.
 Well, that’s me told…
Or not. Maybe you want to read an actual book rather than the first PDF you could google?
Yes, giraffe groupings are called “herds”, all over the place, but they’re not, in any way, shape or form, the kind of herd you can get ostracized from. Especially if you’re an older male.
Interesting sideline - giraffes may be some of the gayest mammals out there - the dominance behaviour known as necking frequently ends with male-on-male mounting . In one research study, 94% of the observed mountings in the study area were male-male.
Ricky has a take on the book that figure is sourced from, BTW (but no giraffes). NSFW for drawings and language.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO45GrfSmWg
But somehow missed the clarifying one immediately below it…
And yet knowing this, you still choose to respond to posts without reading the rest of the thread…
…which is fair enough, as it’s what I’m doing now, too.![]()
Granted.
But then maybe your first rebuttal to me should not have been the claim that giraffes don’t have herds. Maybe you should have said, “Yes, they have herds, but not the kind of herds that ostracize members thereof.”
I’ve herd of giraffes, of course, but a group of giraffes is called a tower of giraffes.
*Animal Congregations, or What Do You Call a Group of…?
…Perhaps the following, gleaned and compiled from several sources, will help. I’ve tried to indicate proper usage for terms that apply to a specific type of assemblage or to only a single gender or age, but some of my sources were fairly general. Where my sources disagreed on spelling, I let the majority rule…
If you are interested in derivation of some of these names, or if you just want some fun reading, check out James Lipton’s book entitled “An Exaltation of Larks” 2nd edition (Penguin Books 1977).
Giraffes = A tower.* As in a tower of giraffes.

Most places I know of, you need the licence for particular animals before you start hunting them, it’s not usually something you can pick up in the bush. So I can well believe she had a plan.
Hey hey hey, careful there, unlike *some *people linked to in this thread, I didn’t kill it, or anything else ![]()
…particularly not gram-gram, that definitely wasn’t me.
Nor is this.
Because I’d already made that exact point the post immediately before that one, maybe? 8 minutes before.
This thread has it all! I wonder if that gal rides motorcycles?
Yes. Through a pen of live baby chicks, while she herself makes duckface. Saw it on YouTube.
The people threatening to rape her and rape her children are the one’s who brought this up, not her. She’s merely responding to it, and responding gracefully at that.
What evidence do we have that she is lying?
Fair enough. You may be right. There’s not enough information on that video or anything else I’ve seen to indicate how “real” of a hunting situation it was.
But I’d ask you as a hunter: Consider giving other hunters the benefit of the doubt.
It’s bad enough that there are scores of completely ignorant anti-hunters willing to condemn hunters in just about any situation by always assuming the worst. We shouldn’t pile on to other hunters without good reason.
Maybe she’s a reality TV attention whore who isn’t a real hunter and she shot that Giraffe inside of a high fence. Maybe not. But until we have evidence of her doing something wrong we shouldn’t pass judgement.
Everyone has their own morals when it comes to hunting. I wouldn’t shoot at a deer after hours, since that’s illegal. But if I’ve got a wounded animal and I need a second arrow to humanely kill it I won’t hesitate even if my watch says it’s 31 minutes past sunset. There’s what’s legal and then there’s the right thing to do.
You mentioned baiting of deer. I’m inclined to agree with you about it not being ethical. Around here it’s also not legal. But baiting bears is basically the only way (other than dogs) to hunt them. I spent many days over bait stands trying for a bear and walked away empty handed.
Up north I see plenty of people baiting deer. They put corn out in the fields and wait for them to come in. But I don’t judge this illegal behavior. You know why? There is real poverty up there. The hunting camp I use has plywood floors and is a lot nicer than many of the houses I see up there. Those people aren’t baiting in deer to get a huge trophy buck. They’re doing it so they make sure they fill all their tags so they can fill their freezer for the winter. Who am I to judge them?
TL;DR: We need to stick together as hunters. We’ve got enough enemies without turning on each other.
