Who would have thought so much testing goes into each shuttlecock? Assembled by hand from individually measured duck feathers each one undergoes wind tunnel testing for stability - twice. The final test is to have it tossed through the air by machine and sorted by how far each one travels. In addition, each one is rated as slow, medium or fast spin and marked as such. I think I just played with the cheap plastic ones.
DennisI believe the feathers come only from the left wing of the goose.
I have this mental image of vast fields of squawking one-winged geese hopping around in confused circles.
I’m just here because I think “shuttlecock” is funny to say.
Shuttlecock.
Not to worry. The right wing feathers are shipped to the Southern Hemisphere.
