I’m thinking of making osso bucco and risotto milanese for a relatively small gathering on Christmas and I was wondering if those with the culinary experience could advise on how to fill this out into a complete menu. What would you want to have as a starter or a follower or as an additional side with such a meal?
Can never go wrong with a lovely platter of veggies - I cheat and take a bag of frozen cauliflower and broccoli florettes, chop a sweet onion, add a drained and rinsed can each of garbonzo beans, , bag of flat italian green beans, a good balsamic based italian dressing and marinate overnight. Serve with a good sliced sopresata, kalamata olives, the cute little balls of mozzarella and little pickled peppers in dishes on the side. Add a nice crusty bread, and roasted garlic and herbed soft cheese as a spread.
Hmmm, dessert. Zabagline over fruit and meringue cookies.
Yeah, basic antipasto. Marinated mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and eggplant would be good too.
Sounds great! Antipasto it is.
Do you mind sharing your osso bucco recipe? I am thinking of attempting it (had it for the first time and it’s amazing!)
I actually don’t have a particular recipe in mind yet. There are so many recipes online which mostly more or less agree, so I’m planning to consult several and see what I like best. One thing I’m committed to, though, is using a homemade veal stock.
Side: Broccolini or asparagus. Starters Crab cakes; it is Christmas. Need something special.
mmm broccolini / broccoli rabe sauteed with garlic! As a hot side dish, it sounds quite yummy.
If I promise to *bring *a side dish, can I come for dinner? My mouth is already watering…
