<sigh> Here's why us Yoopers get a little testy at times

I’m confused by the OP. The map on the page linked clearly has the UP shown on the upper left corner.

It does now. I’m reasonably certain it didn’t show it before.

HA they ADDED it!

That’s incredibly funny.

I wonder if a bunch of people wrote in to complain, because I know I did. Maybe it was just MY email. Yup, that’s what I’m going to believe.

Crap, I don’t think I grabbed a copy of the original. Anyway, I did track down a few more for UPGAP.

[hijack] I heart your user name. [/hijack]

I found a copy in my cache. It’s on its way to you.

Genius.

I love the ones where they just sort of mashed Michigan into an unrecognizable lump. It’s like they just totally made up that part of the country as they went along.

Some of them also went to the trouble of outlining the UP, but not identifying it as Michigan.

clicks through

Oh, MI is missing the fragmented bit at the top. doublechecks that’s weird, the original version that had the OP teed off still shows on my machine.

Excellent, thanks. Added to the collection (and promoted to first place  ).

Ha, thanks, likewise. Never caught on IRL, somehow.

I can sort of understand the ones that somewhat follow the US/Canada border through the Great Lakes. Sort of. But c’mon, it’s not that hard to do the right thing. And you’d think it would occur to the author to, you know, look at a real map for reference.

Unless Athena and I just haven’t been introduced to the Yooper faction that’s intentionally obfuscating our peninsula’s true location…

You have my sympathy. As a New Yorker who doesn’t live in New York City, I know what it feels like to live in a forgotten land.

Huh? I thought the entire state was just one big metropolis.

At least you didn’t grow up in Montana. Some people think its all dirt roads and saloons, and we ride horses around town instead of driving cars. They are surprised to find out we actually have indoor plumbing!

Athena, I live in Flint, MI. A local hero (& columnist for our paper, the Flint Journal) , Andrew “Andy” Heller, keeps us apprised of goings-on in the “yoop”. According to the boy, you’re currently going from slush season to black fly season. Has anyone suggested you declare the black flies Canadian? They’ll have to move up north & will leave you in peace. (Oh, wait, Andy Heller suggested that a few years back.)

I have to love the UP…how else can I travel a few hours up an interstate & end up in Paradise (MI)?

Love, Phil

Oh slush season is long over. The snow’s been gone for a month at least. And the flies haven’t started yet, though the reason is that’s it still too cold. A couple days ago it was sunny & warm, and the noseeums came out at night. I’m not sure what they’re really called, but they’re sorta tiny black fly-like insects that put some sort of numbing thing into you when they bite, then sit and suck your blood. An hour later, you find a big dried pool of blood wherever they were.

Yup, the UP’s just great!

And just as a public service announcement - we have one month of bugs, June. Once June is over, summer in the UP is really paradise.

As an (adopted) New Mexican, I feel your pain.

They still haven’t added the Keys.
