Nevermind I didn’t read the second half of the post.
I remember reading it. No idea when or where.
It sounds like the OP has indicated that they felt as though a gun makes them and their family less safe in their own house. Until that balance was changed by right wing threats of violence.
Even the most careful and diligent gun owner can make a mistake, and the OP isn’t so full of himself that he believes that he is above that, unlike people who actually subscribe to gun culture.
I knew someone who was really into bikes. Had all the accessories, talked about different brands and models.
The fact that he wasn’t allowed to drive didn’t have anything to do with it at all. No siree.
Just because someone is forced into doing something doesn’t mean that they cannot find some form of enjoyment in it.
OTOH, no one is forcing you to defend threats of domestic terrorism, but you do seem to be finding enjoyment in it.
Please quote any part of my post where I said this. You will not, because I neither said nor implied this.

Is it that hard to find flaws in my posts without resorting to outright lying, or is this a reading comprehension thing? Please enlighten me, I’m truly curious what makes a person screw up this badly.
The OP seems to specifically enjoy target shooting.
Target shooting IS fun. I loved it in the Army. (Cleaning the weapons afterwards was a pain, I guess, but it’s not that hard or time consuming.)
Regarding the truth that when seconds count, the police are minutes away…
The town closest to me has two police cars, but can’t afford any police. They park the cars on the main road to help prevent speeding. And I shit you not, they even set up a mannequin in one of them. His name is Woody, or Barney depending on who you ask.
The county sheriffs office does not have ANY deputies on duty between 9pm and 7am (my Wife works for that county, I work for a different one).
And of course ANY time there is a vote to increase funding so they can, you know, do their jobs, it does not pass. Idiots.
I guess it’s up to the State Patrol for us, where ever they may be. That’s a roll of the dice.
Sure, it is. Back when I had time and friends into guns, I was at the range at least once a month, sometimes far more often. I never got good but I could at least avoid embarrassing myself.
I like mechanical devices, and a gun is an intricate mechanical device, showing off its design and craftsmanship. I actually enjoyed taking them apart, cleaning them, and putting them back together. I’d often do the guns for our whole group.
That doesn’t mean I actually want to own one, or want one in my home.
There’s a racetrack kinda nearby where you can rent time on the track and rent one of their cars and drive it around in a circle really fast (after some safety training and evaluation). That was a whole lot of fun, too, but I don’t want a racecar in my garage either.
I’d like to take my kid to a range just so she can see what it’s like, but commercial shooting ranges are stupidly expensive around here.
Range time wasn’t too bad, but gun rental and ammo (and if you used their gun, you had to use their ammo) was. Borrowing a gun from a friend made it a lot cheaper.
Of course, now at one of my local ranges, when I get done shooting, I can go have a beer.
Look, I live in a state that’s likely very, very different from yours. The laws about guns here are much more stringent… and those of us who grew up here? We are used to them and like them that way. Now, my POV is not yours ( and likely will not be yours ). It’s pretty rarified and unusual and I honestly don’t expect any of you to agree with it. Still… I’m going to share it
( so now might be the time for adults who are sensitive and whom have strong opinions to skip my post.)
I’m going to spoiler it for those with weak hearts. I appreciate virtually all of you here and I don’t want Anything to happen to Any of you! That said, here is my ‘Offensive Position’:
Guns. Guns are like coils of really, really expensive rope which dealers sell us with a big smile. And they smile because they know that if they sell us enough rope, as they pocket all our cash, they know that we will surely hang ourselves with it. And that they’ll just end up with those guns back again… through gun shows and estate sales, to sell ( used ) to the next guy. With a Big Smile. That’s it. That’s the Opinion.
Not a very offensive position after all. But the manufacturers gain nothing from those resales. From their POV, they’d rather build less durable products that need to be replaced often.
I’m not sure if you were replying to me, the OP, or someone else here. Discourse is good like that.
I am not a fan of the fact that one of our local shooting ranges just got a liquor permit, I think that’s pretty stupid.
As far as your spoiled part, I’d liken gun dealers to more like drug dealers, and not the good kind of drugs, but more like meth and krokodil. And it’s not the individual who is the user, but society itself.
That’s definitely a WTF situation.
The club I joined has a liquor lounge…but if you go in you are not allowed back in the range.
Did you remember her name? Was it L. Bobert or M Taylor-Greene?
That’s at least somewhat reasonable. I think you shouldn’t have drinking and firearms in the same establishment for safety purposes, but at least they’re trying to take precautions.
That’s the theory here, too, and you aren’t allowed to bring your guns into the liquor serving part of the establishment.
In theory it could work… I’m just waiting to see how it works in practice.
It just kind of feels like…
“I understand that having a daycare in a wolf sanctuary raises concerns, but all of the toddlers will be kept in a secure area and there are cameras to keep track.”
The closer your situation gets to being a Far Side cartoon, the more worries I have for whatever you’re doing.
