Interestingly, there was a time when this was actually taught in the schools. Not in the course of a normal classroom activity so much, as it was an extracurricular activity. It wasn’t really that long ago either. I graduated high school in 1980, and we had a small bore rifle team that competed all around the state of Ohio. It wasn’t a very popular thing, not even as much as the debating team, or the chess club, but it was there for anyone interested.

In Iowa Falls, Iowa, it was part of P.E. We went to the local Reserve Armory and had to shoot a .22.

I suspect they mean what everyone means when they say “normal”: “like me.”
