Signifying, playing the dozens in Reggae

Hey guys, I’ve posted this in “General questions” already. Sorry about that. So now: Does one of yous know an example of signifying occuring in reggae/dancehall or other music? How did this word fight get into Jamaican culture? What are its origins? Maybe you’ve heard interviews of Bounty or so speaking about dissing? What do you think about that? …

Well one example I have on CD which is not directed to a particular foe but all other DJ’s is on Hepcat’s Open Season is Closed - on their Right on Time album.

Dear BurnMeUp, thanks for the tip. I’ll check it out. Blessings…

Thanks, I’m actually reading a great book on its African origins, grammar rules and rhythm ->rap: “The Signifying Monkey” by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. I’m looking for people’s opinions as to that subject and examples of Reggae/Dancehall artists signifying upon one another!
