FYI, the other two (to win the “big five” of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Original/Adapted Screenplay) were It Happened One Night and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
I used to work with a British guy who was contracted to work with my department. He became annoyed after I asked to repeat some phrases because I couldn’t understand him.
Annoyed, he told me, “damn it, we invented the language”
I said “You may invented the language, but we perfected it”. He was not amused.
I still remember the time I tried to get a room on British submarine base as a U.S. Navy lieutenant (junior grade). The clerk asked me in a loud, nasal voice if I was a “Leftenant or a sub-leftenant“? (Answer: my rank at the time was midway between those two Royal Navy ranks.)
Hey, shipmate! I retired as a Navy Chief in the Seabees. I remember my guys jumping through hoops to provide transportation for a guy who called and said he was “Captain Smith”. Turned out he was Army and didn’t rate all the attention.
I assumed he opened the shaft and dropped the dead cop onto the roof of the car. He moves fast.
