Silence of the Lambs

How the hell did Hannibal get the pen that he would later use to escape? He appeared to be ducttaped to the handtruck the whole time.

This bugs me everytime I watch the movie, but I always forget 20 minutes later.

In the novel he signed something. I think it was the asshole psychologist who didn’t check that he got the pen back. Lecter broke the ink tube and kept in between his cheek and jaw for some period of time. Days or weeks, I can’t recall.

The movie glosses over it; Chilton has the pen, Lector notices it, Chilton later can’t find his pen… the mechanics are unclear at best.

The novel described the process of acquiring the tools for making an improvised handcuff key taking months, with Lector keeping it concealed until the opportunity came along.

Ah, thanks. That’s always bothered me.

Such a great movie. Everytime it’s on, I can’t tune out.

In the book, it wasn’t a whole pen.

Like Bryan said, he’d had the pieces for months – a short piece of the inner barrel of a pen and a paperclip, small enough to hide in his mouth.

It would have been tedious to show all that in the movie, and it was cool that Chilton got the blame.
