I’m taking care of a friend’s dog while the friend is out of town for a week or 8 days. I don’t have any experience with long haired dogs and this dog’s fur is very fine- like baby hair.
The dog arrived last night and seems to be getting along with my dachshund OK (they are pointedly ignoring each other).
The dog has a few fleas, so I gave her some Advantage drops. She also seems to be in the early to middle stages of pregnancy… I could be wrong about that, but her tummy seems round and taut and her teats (?) seem to be enlarged.
My friend washed the dog before bringing her over and the dog has some dirty mats on her under side and back end and somewhat of a urine-y odor. I really want to clean her up a bit.
I can’t brush the mats out and trimmed a few of the dirty ones off, but she really could use a good grooming. I can’t take her to the groomer as I don’t have her rabies papers (and I’m not sure how grooming someone else’s long haired dog without permission would be received).
Can I wash this dog with human hair products (specifically, cream rinse) to loosen the mats?
