That’s a cover. Bob Dylan did the original.
Damn, I’m gonna have that in my head for a week.
So do I, although it was played so many times it’s not mint. And it’s not for sale!
Besides, with so many copies out there, they can’t be worth much.
Gimme Dat Ding - The Pipkins
Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead - The Fifth Estate
They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa! - Napoleon XIV
The Battle Hymn Of Lt. Calley - C Company*
*They were, um, dead serious.
You need SiriusXM. Both of those guys get played reasonably often on some of their stations.
Bob Dylan wrote the original, but did not release his recording of it until 1970, two years after Mann (there were bootlegs, but they came to public attention after Mann’s).
How Do You Do Mouth & MacNeal (warning: creepy ventriloquist dummy!)
Has anyone played anything by Bananarama lately?
Cruel Summer gets played every June/July at least a few times.
my ding a ling. Chuck Berry I think.
Nilsson - Coconut
I remember this getting a ton of play back in 1980. Haven’t heard it since. I just can’t imagine why.

Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini

Poke Salad Annie by Tony Joe White, 1968. Poke. Salad.
Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport. Rolf Harris.
Hah, I never saw the video but always imagined Chico from the Marx Brothers singing it. Joe Dolce does a good parody of Chico’s style.
My dad had this record. I haven’t heard it in decades. Thanks.
Brand New Key by Melanie. I think this turned up in a TV commercial a little while ago.
Timothy - The Buoys
I’ve heard it on the radio ONCE, which is the only reason I knew it existed. I was just on a solo road trip, bopping along, and I started thinking WTF is this song!?
As I’m scrolling down the list, that’s exactly what I was planning to post. Between 70’s on 7, 80’s on 8, Deep Tracks, Classic Rewind and Classic Vinyl I hear most of this stuff on a pretty regular basis. Ray Stevens will show up on Blue Collar from time to time as well.
What a co-inky-dink: My husband and I were discussing this subject the other night, basically making conversation to stay awake on a late night drive. I was trying to find any halfway listenable radio stations*, and mentioned listening to Dr. Demento as a kid, and we were off to the races.
Revelation #1: I am married to a man who knows every word to Snoopy and the Red Baron.
Revelation #2: My husband and I both have spouses who can’t carry a tune in a bucket. Or a Camry.
Other novelty songs that came up: Pac Man Fever, Shriners’ Convention, Mississippi Squirrel Revival, and Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah.
*Apparently, there’s an honest-to-goodness, non-novelty, perfectly earnest country song about having a beer with Jesus. I laughed a lot.
