Silly Oldies that Never Get Radio Play Anymore

Anyone remember Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann? God, I remember loving the hell out of that song when I was five. The oldies station played it all the time back then (would have been the late 80s), but I haven’t heard it in at least a decade. I just looked it up on Youtube and it made me make this face:

I feel like wearing a goofy grin for the rest of the night. Anyone else have a stupid favorite song that time has forgotten?

Short People (Got No Reason To Live)

The Streaker (“DON’T LOOK, ETHEL!” is a frequent quote in conversations with a friend of mine).

Billy, Don’t be a Hero.

ETA okay, at the time it was earnest, not silly - same with Seasons in the Sun…

Cover of the Rolling Stone

Sheb Wooley, Purple People Eater.

A lot of Todd Rundgren stuff gets no respect: Hello It’s Me, I saw the Light, It Wouldn’t have Made Any Difference.

Joe Jackson too: Fools in Love, Is She Really Going Out With Him, Look Sharp, Steppin’ Out, You Can’t Get What You Want (Till You Know What You Want), Sunday Papers.

How come this stuff never gets air play?

Strangely enough, I hear this all the time at the grocery store. Where in the world are they getting their music?

Today I heard “Puttin’ on the Ritz” by Taco for the first time in several years. It was bouncy fun and I always liked the little snippet of “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” in there.

Plus, I dare you not to sing the refrain like Peter Boyle in “Young Frankenstein”.

ANOTHER frequent quote in conversations with my friend.

The Royal Guardsmen- Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron

I Was Kaiser Bill’s Batman.

Winchester Cathedral.

The Man with the Weird Beard.

And, that most odious of songs: Open the Door Richard.

Life Is A Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me) by Reunion.

Jim Stafford - Spiders And Snakes, My Girl Bill, Wildwood Weed.

Smokin’ In the Boys’ Room - the original by Brownsville Station. Also, Kings of the Party and Martian Boogie.

“Chick-a-Boom (Don’t Ya Just Love it)” by Daddy Dewdrop.

My first favorite song.

More enjoyable cheese: These Boots are Made for Walkin’

Thanks, everyone!

“Wild Wood Weed”

Ultimate silly.
Check the guy in the background.

Oddly enough, I have that record on 45 rpm, in mint condition. And it’s for sale!

How about Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, by Brian Hyland?

Or A Simple Desultory Philippic, by S&G?

Beep Beep, The Playmates

Transfusion, Nervous Norvus

What in the ever loving hell was that?

That is not silly! Take it back!

It’s OK Nancy, don’t listen to them…

Yabba dabba do!
