silly, silly terrorists in Paris

Or you could read definition #6 of the very cite I provided and see it is perfectly functional as a verb without object.

Simple. If you ain’t white you’re bad

As for the rest:

Your personal attacks are humorous, as always. I was hoping for substance but probably should have known better. I’ll continue to shine light on hypocrisy and you’ll continue to attack the messenger. On and on it goes.

Here are your posts in this thread. Care to point out anything of “substance”?

Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Shining a light on hypocrisy? Looks like your batteries are dead.

And darkness does not “shine”, nor ignorance embiggen.

Wow, I thought Stringbean’s thread contributions were fucking stupid when I encountered them 1 at a time. Seeing them all in a row like that reminds me of walking past a long line of shitters in a bus station shithouse.

Rumors abound of a threatened attack by fanatical Unitarian extremists.

Sure.

Quotes 1, 3, 4, and 5 showcase how the Politically Correct Left, which would never tolerate homophobia, misogyny, or religious oppression, have given modern Islam a free pass on these issues because Muslims have been deemed a “protected class” wherein criticism of their beliefs is considered bigotry.

A simple counter-example is the constant (rightful) attacks on homophobic Christians and the continual push for restrictive abortion measures. And whenever Bill O’Reilly rants on how Christianity is under attack by creeping secularism. These are roundly criticized by liberals as intolerant or otherwise oppressive views.

Yet, Muslims and Muslim systems of law are by and large vociferously intolerant toward gays. Not to mention that women are required to shield their faces in many Muslim societies, and are liable to punishment for sex outside of marriage. In the most extreme cases, accusing a man of rape lands the* woman* in jail for admitting to intercourse outside of marriage. Not to mention, rape inside of marriage is not considered possible. And there are of course the large majorities of Muslims in certain Muslim countries who believe apostasy–leaving the Muslim faith–is punishable by death.

All of these are gross violations of humanity. Gross injustices toward traditionally oppressed classes of people. Secular liberals wouldn’t tolerate the mere uttering of these ideas among Christians, Jews, or their fellow atheists, but for Islam it is tacitly accepted as they are too pussy-ass scared to criticize the religion or its adherents. They reek of self-righteous hypocrisy every time a Charley Hebdo occurs and they can only scramble to remind us all that, because not all Muslims are willing to murder for their religion, tragedies like this are not a big deal. Ho-hum. 12 people dead for expressing their right to free speech. It’s only Islam. We can’t expect tolerance from* those* guys. They’re special. Let’s not hold them to same standard as everyone else, lest we offend them.

With regard to quote 2, I was pointing out the absurdity of the claim that the exercisers of Political Correctness are radical Islamists. None of their espoused views would be tolerated in a politically-correct society, and the poster to whom I was responding needed to be shown how blatantly ludicrous his claim was.

If my word choice was lacking, I’ll live with it. 12 senseless funerals can do that to a man.

lol

“Showcase”. I don’t think that means what you think it means. Hey asshole, newsflash, nobody is defending the terrorists. In fact, the hair you’re refusing to split (which is about the size of Denver, Colorado) is the one between “extremist islamist” (nobody standing up for them) and “typical muslims”.

I mean, this is like if there was a large group of people thought that the Westboro Baptist Church represented all Christians, and went around spewing hatred at Christians because of that, screaming about how offensive and awful they were. I will gladly stand behind people who criticize Islam for the demerits of Islam. But pretending that terrorists represent all of Islam is bullshit, and it’s really hard to punch down in a situation like this. Someone has to stand up for the random Muslim on the street, and it sure as hell ain’t gonna be the FOX News sycophants.

Islam is a brutal, regressive religion - much like Christianity. Most Muslims, like most Christians, don’t live that way. They shape their faith around their dedication to humanity, rather than the disgusting inhumanities within their holy book. The bigotry comes from conflating the beliefs of the many moderate Muslims (who have spoken out again and again and again against such terrorist actions) with those of terrorists. For fuck’s sake, many moderate imams issued fatwas against Bin Laden.

Actually, O’Reilly’s rants about Christianity being under attack aren’t intolerant or oppressive. They’re just stupid. Christians are a massive majority within the USA; the idea that they’re somehow being “oppressed” is so beyond asinine that it’s hard to fathom.

And that’s actually part of why it’s so easy for us to criticize Christians. Nobody is going around claiming that Christians aren’t true Americans, that Christians need to shut up, that they need to convert or die. Nobody protests when someone builds a church in Salem, MA. Christians aren’t a minority group that need protection. They’re a huge supermajority with virtually all the political clout (look at the makeup of congress and the supreme court if you don’t believe me, or name me a president who wasn’t Christian), tons of money, and a phenomenal amount of influence. We don’t punch down.

The criticism of Christianity is very simple: “don’t violate the first amendment; don’t give it advantages in the public square that other religions or secular organizations are not given; don’t force your mores on the rest of us”. Hey, tell you what - when Muslims in America try to do that, we liberal atheists will be on it like a fly on hot shit! When Muslims step up to use their religion as an excuse to push homophobic legislature, we’ll be all over that shit! Just let us know!

And nobody disagrees. At all. But here’s the thing:

This is absolute horseshit. Nobody “accepts” these ideas from Islam. But Muslims in the US generally wield exactly zero political clout. They’re not a threat. They don’t matter. The issue with Muslims in the US is the constant threat they face from the terrorists - every time an attack like this happens, the “natives” become more and more aggrieved towards them, and Islamophobia becomes more of an issue.

I’m not going to excuse anything. Homophobia, the subjugation of women, etc. It’s all totally bullshit, and the moment Muslims advocate for it, they’re fucking done. But in the US, in Germany, in the UK, that’s not what’s happening. At all. We step up to remind people “these people do not represent Islam” because someone has to. Because Islam is a massive array of beliefs and faiths, just like Christianity is. And your dishonest strawmanning does a disservice to all of us, including those who died in Paris.

Awesome, I spent 30 minutes responding to this fucking tool. If anyone needs me, I’ll be rethinking my life choices.

It’s possible for a majority to be oppressed. You make it sound like the two things are mutually exclusive.

My House Representative, the Hon. Kieth Ellison, is a Muslim, and about as scary as Neil de Grasse Tyson. But he’s a Lutheran Muslim, and they aren’t nearly as evil.

Oh, it’s possible. If that majority lacks money, military power, or political clout, then an invading, smaller force could potentially enforce their will over them.

Err, just out of curiosity, why didn’t you quote the next paragraph?

Christians make up 6/9ths of the Supreme Court (the remaining 3 are Jewish). They are disproportionately represented in Congress. Virtually every president since the founding fathers has been a Christian, almost all some variant of protestant. The military is slightly less religious than the general populace, but Christianity is still a massive supermajority.

What, exactly, is supposed to oppress Christians in the US? There are few things that sicken me quite as much as the wolf-crying “WE’RE BEING OPPRESSED” by the Christian right-wing.

Dude, Neil deGrasse Tyson could break you in half. Then proceed to soothingly blow both your minds.

You haven’t posted since your non-response to my rant which completely agreed with your point of view. Wherefore art thou, Iamnotivan?

I am taking it upon myself to find Iamnotivan once more. I am going to start a web campaign dedicated to finding him. The whole smash, from putting his handle on milk cartons, to starting a rally dedicated to helping him feel confident enough to emerge from the shadows, and it will be named “I Am Iamnotivan”.

Contribute to the rally by donating gold (in a pinch, we’ll take silver certificates) at my kickstarter page. No US dollars, please, for obvious reasons.

#Iamiamnotivan

Trend it, internet.
