Simcity 5 Doper region organizing thread

Simcity 5 is coming in a couple days. One of its main selling points is multiple players cooperating in the same region. I figure we Dopers can build the bestest region in all of Maxisdom.

Based on pre-release information, there are several available region sizes from 2 to 16 cities. Each has a variety of city sites with differing resoures, which allows one player to specialize in, say, oil drilling, another in tourism, and another in hi-tech industry. Players trade resources and can also work together to build a great work like an international airport or a space center.

Post here if you want to join in the city-building fun. Based on the responses, I’ll set up a region of appropriate size. Be sure to also send me a friend request on Origin so I can invite you when the time comes. My username is TerminusEst920.

Sweet! I’m in

My computer’s not currently operational, but I’d like to claim a spot if there’s room. I hope to have my computer up and running fairly soon.

Save me a spot. When I get the game and have an Origin account, I’ll post it here. I’ll use “Knorf” if I can.

P.S. No one minds a tremendous industrial, polluting city, right?

Please count me in. Regional multiplayer is the only reason I’ll ever play outside sandbox mode.

And just 24 hours to go!

Ooh, I need to get around to pre-ordering that. I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to play this semester, but I’m in!

I just pre-ordered, might as well count me in.

ETA: And I have no idea what any of these things are, but I totally call dibs on being by whatever resource specializes me in “hi-tech industry” because that seems like what I’d want to do.

Can my economy be entirely based on kidnapping visiting citizens from everyone else’s cities and then hunting them for sport?

Same with me, waiting for a replacement graphics card at the moment!

Can EU players do stuff with US players?

No reason to wait to get Origin, since the game requires it anyway. Go to the EA site, download it, and set up your account ahead of time.

I’m not really sure about hi-tech either. I think it has something to do with education.

I understand there are supposed to be EU servers and US servers, but there’s no restriction on which one you actually join. You could, in fact, have multiple regions (up to 10, I believe) on each server.

Count me in… can’t wait until this is released! I’ve been playing since the 1st version of the game came on 5 1/4 floppy discs… I wasn’t too excited initially but after playing in all three betas, I’m hooked!

I also just pre-ordered, and will join up if there’s room. I haven’t played a SimCity game for about 15 years, but I’ll try not to be a disaster!

I’ll go one better. I’m gonna recreate Panem, subjugate all your cities, and demand you send me your children for my grisly survival games.

Based on expressed interest, we can probably fill up one of the larger 11- or 16-city regions. You can see them over on Simcity Hall. The cities in these large regions are grouped together in clusters of three or four. I’m not sure how that affects resource sharing.

As a reminder, if you want an invite to the SDMB region, make sure to friend me on Origin. My username is TerminusEst920.

Does anything that bad happen because of empty city spots in a region? If not, a 16-city region is probably best, especially if players always choose spots adjacent to other players.

Just a general note, I’m in California and typically play games after 9pm my time, so hopefully the game handles asynchronicity well.

I believe the game is set up to handle Godzilla attacks on neighboring unattended cities beautifully :p.

As of now, it’s up for download on Origin.

I had to restart Origin to get my pre-order to show it’s available for download now.

Woohoo It’s downloading.
UnWoohoo, My sciatica is bad again :frowning: and it is going to be very difficult to build a city in a 5 minutes sitting and computer, 55 minutes Lying on my back schedule.

Sheesh. It was downloading, then it was installing, now it’s processing. When do we get to reticulating?
