Simcity 5 Doper region organizing thread

Bulldozing the small dump site is the only way to go. Burning creates awful persistent air pollution, although I suppose you can place it in your city such that it becomes some other city’s problem. Bulldozing creates a spread of ground pollution around the site, but it dissipates with time, and seems better to me than endlessly adding more dump sites, and more polite than blowing acrid smoke and ash over someone else’s city.

Hmm, my dumps are placed on the downwind-most edge of my city (not by design, but by happy accident). I wish I had been smart enough to put all my industry on that side.

Anyway, my city is still pretty small so I have a while before I have to worry about maxing out my garbage capacity.

I guess trash hasn’t been a big problem in my small city. Probably because I’ve been exporting a lot of it.

Watch what happens when your city’s population exceeds 100k. It’s ain’t pretty, let me tell you. And in my oil town, we know a lot about what pretty ain’t.

I don’t know if I’m ever going to exceed 50K, let alone 100K. I estimate my area is 40% water, so I don’t have a lot of space to build things. I’m kinda hoping I can pump out enough water to lower the water table sufficiently so I can reclaim some of that land (don’t know if that’s even possible).

sigh

Having got my computer back from the shop, it still isn’t working, so I won’t be playing any time soon, so I don’t mind losing my spot if others are wanting to join.

That would be cool, if it works. I had been looking forward to playing on Cotton Bend because it straddled a river and I thought that would make an interesting city. Too bad Harper’s Plain (Plainville) is flat and landlocked. Combined with my huge industry and mining/oil drilling economy I’m a little worried about what my water situation is going to look like down the road. I’ve already had to close one water tower due to water pollution.

My main concern right now is what I do when I run out of coal and ore. My entire economy depends on that income. I suppose I should save up and try to transition to tourism or something.

Moss Yell is in the same boat with coal and ore. Will need to specialize in something else down the road.

I have the base-level coal and ore mines running, no upgrades at all. I’m hoping they last for a while that way. I’m not dependent on them, I think. It’s basically bonus income; my budget surplus is about $8k with about 25k Sims.

My main concern is transitioning to a better balance of income levels. Right now, I’m almost completely low income. And low density, with a few spots of medium. I’ve put in some parks to get some areas of medium and high incomes.

My industry has been complaining about getting better educated workers. I think that means there are some medium income jobs available. I’ve put in a high school and a library. I’m hoping they can go to college in another city.

You may not want to get too crazy selling all the ore. We might want Great Thingamabobs eventually.

OK. If there’s still a slot when your computer’s functional, I’ll be sure to invite you.

Recovering materials from recycling is very lucrative.

Would you accept these glossy brochures and posters extolling the virtues of Podunkton Tech? Enrollment is competitive, but by all means, send some students over! We’ll treat 'em right.

Unless they start protesting at my mansion. I know I’ve got the number for the National Guard here somewhere!

I really wish the map was bigger, too. Things got crowded very quickly.

I don’t know how the residents of Plainville will have time for gambling what with their busy schedule of robbery, arson, and protesting outside the mayor’s house about all the crime and burning buildings.

For those who haven’t gotten in yet, could I suggest Spooner Plains as a lovely place to found a new city? Directly adjacent to beautiful Bravasia, you would be assured of a brisk trade in me buying all of your excess water.

Oh man, I see it coming. Too bad there is no way to build an aquaduct or something.

After I’ve finished mining the last drop of sweet, sweet coal from the earth I think I’m going to gut my industrial complex and try to make a shift to a vice-based economy.
