Simple John Updike "Rabbit" question...

Which book in the series of “Rabbit” (e.g. Rabbit is Rich) is first? I’ve been recommended this series, but I can’t seem to figure out which one came first. The version of the book I’m seeing at the local bookstore is republished (not the original print), so the copywrite dates are all screwed up. And in the list of other books by the author, each of the Rabbit books lists all of the other Rabbit books.

lol, I must be stupid

You are correct to try to read them in order.

Rabbit Run
Rabbit Redux
Rabbit is Rich
Rabbit at Rest

Rabbit Run is set in the late 1950s, when Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom is 26 years old. Subsequent books were written and set approximately a decade later for each book.

I know you didn’t ask, but I really didn’t like Rabbit Redux, but I thought Rabbit is Rich and Rabbit at Rest were fabulous.

There was also a later novella called, I believe, “Rabbit Remembered”; it was collected in an Updike anthology called “Licks and Love.”

I’ve read the first two so far, and I liked Run better, but Redux was pretty good too, I thought.
