The only way I know is to sort by number (the leftmost column) in iTunes. Then you can drag songs around within the playlist to your heart’s content – I do it frequently. From within the iPod, though, I’m not aware of a way to do it.
It works! Thank you so much!
Yes, I want my iPod to do that too. I also would like a remote that had more than forwards, back and pause on it, so that I don’t have to go all the way across the room just to program the songs I want.
I also wish that my iPod were psychic and had a sense of propriety. Can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had my iPod on shuffle in my office, and my boss has stopped by, just as some wildly-inappropriate-for-the-workplace song comes out of the speakers…
Well, my iPod performs the simplest of functions now - a paperweight. (Just before I sent it in for battery replacement, the hard drive tanked. $255 to fix? I don’t think so. I’ll use my little Zen Nano until I really NEED more than 512mb.)
Accessing the shuffle function should definitely be easier.
I usually renamed audiobooks with multiple parts (like when I ripped them from library CDs - bad karma!) so that the disc and track number were at the beginning of the track name. After one of the software updates, I found out that categorizing as audiobook meant that those tracks wouldn’t be played when shuffling - nice work!
A hard reset. They left it off because it’s inelegant. So once and a while it crashes and I’m music free unless I remember their magic voodoo button combo. All devices capable of crashing need a hard reset.
A full wired remote with a display. My iPod lives in my backpack. I used to have a great CD/MP3 player with an awesome wired remote. I hate having to dig around, find the backlight button, etc. just to see what I’m listening to.
A button that allows you to “go up a directory and keep playing from that” while in shuffle mode. So, like, if you hear an artist you like, you can use one button to keep listening to that artist. Once again, my old CD player had this and it was awesome.
Two things: 1) I wish it wouldn’t count “a”, “an” and “the” when it’s alphabetizing things. And 2) I wish it would scroll the name of the album and artist while playing. It only scrolls the name of the song!
