About a day and a half ago, I reported this post found in this thread as a personal insult. When there was no response, I reported it again yesterday. Still nothing.
In my view, it is a willful, deliberate insult to compare me to the outrageous lawyer depicted in the linked video. Last time this happened, I made my objections known in this thread. ** AClockworkMelon** is obviously aware of how distasteful I find that video, and obviously posted it as an unprovoked cheap shot in a thread I had not even participated in. My original impulse was to retaliate by posting a link to a picture of a jackass, saying it reminds me of him. Tit for tat, so to speak. However, we are encouraged to report such things rather that retaliate in kind, so I deleted that post within the edit windfow, and reported the matter.
Unfortunately, there has been no response. I’d like some clarification on whether comparing me to the lawyer video in this context violates the rules or not. If not, then I should be free to retaliate with my own unflattering link comparing AClockworkMelon to a jackass…or a certain moderator to the Whore of Babylon…or any other comparison I may wish to draw in such a thread without risking of mod sanction.
I’ll add that** Tuba** did respond to me by PM, which I received immediately after posting the above. I disagree with her explanation, but appreciate the effort to respond.
What a childish response. I wish that I could say that I am surprised that you would respond that way.
Do you honestly believe that “two wrongs make a right” is the way to go when a poster here is butthurt that something didn’t go their way? If you did that you would be objectively deliberately posting what is, in your mind, an insult.
So I’m supposed to allow myself to be insulted without retaliation? That hardly seems fair. If I punch you in the nose, aren’t you going to hit me back?
And who gets to decide whether there is a rules violation-you?
Edited to add: I think that using someone’s possible misdeeds as an excuse to do wrong yourself is rather childish.
I think that making an analogy between the written word and physical violence is asinine but I’ll play this silly game since it amuses me. If you punched me in the nose, I would report you to the police. I would only hit you back if it prevented you from hitting me again.
I mean, seriously, retaliation? Although it might appear to be at times, this actually isn’t a playground for small children. I have had decisions not go my way. When that happens, I don’t act like a spoiled little crybaby and try to push the line the other way.
Since the OP is discussing this with an admin, the topic is moot and I am closing the thread. I also cannot think of a single time in the history of the board that any poster has asked “I believe poster X is insulting me; can I get approval for this proposed insult?” and the staff has answered “Yes, your insult is approved.”
