Y’know, it’s really giving me a chuckle that among all these novelistic nitpickers, not one has commented that Igor only appears in the Universal movies. In the book, Frankenstein creates his creature alone.
Two words, people: “Inspired by”. Van Helsing is an homage to the classic horror movies of the 1930s. (Mr Hyde was probably thrown in because you can’t properly homage that era of film making without including the first horror movie to win a major Oscar for acting.)
In the 1931 Frankenstien, the assistant was named Fritz
(IIRC this is the earliest sound version)
I REALLY liked how Frankenstien’s Monster was done in this movie (well, mostly)

I had no problems with the canon, making up your own rules is fine by me.

But it was a fun popcorn flick, with more depth than most.
Carl the monk (“I’m only a friar”) played by David “Faramir” Wenham stole the show, but thats OK.

I haven’t seen it yet, but based on this thread it sounds like an attempt at League of Extraordinary Monsters. I don’t have a problem with that. And besides, I always liked Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein.
