Sing me a lullabye!

I’m hitting the rack and I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately. How 'bout one of you lovelies singing me to sleep?

(Mully and UncleBeer, exempt yourselves please!)

I would offer, but you really don’t want to hear me sing.

"Rock a bye Chiefy
In your cold rack
Hopefully you’ll get laid
When you get back.

And when you get back
A Dopefest will ensue
So hurry home for all
The chickies waiting for youuuuuu…"

bows Thank you. I’ll be here all week.

I’m a good singer, but I’m not sure what kind of song you’d like to hear, and I tend to reserve my singing ability to selected audiences.

That’s all you want? Singing? wink

ahem…

Stars shining bright above you
Light breezes seem to whisper ‘I love you’
Birds singing in a sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me…

Say 'nightie 'night and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you’ll miss me
While I’m alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me…

Just call me Cass.
Sweet dreams, struuter

Out in the westbound good ship Eisenhower,
Chiefy in love with his brand new tattoo.
It’s his ships’ name writ in flaming red letters,
on his li’l swabbie when at full salute.

One day a sweet young mermaid showed up,
sweet as a sugary taaaaaaaaaaaaaart,
Though she was smiling and seemed so inviting,
Chiefy discovered her legs wouldn’t part.

So in anguish he went to his hot bunk
and pondered the matter,
certain his sex plans would all come to nought;
he lay there for hours for sure in a blue funk,
swabbie in hand and deeply in thought

STRUUTER BEAT ME TO IT!

That’s the one I always croon (okay, croak) to my kiddo.

Let’s see, how about Mary chapin Carpenter’s “Dreamland?”

[runs off to find the liner notes, as she can’t get Mama Cass out of her head so she can’t “hear” the right lyrics]

How’s poor Chief supposed to sleep thinking of hot inacessable mermaids? Obviously it takes a mother to do this right.

Now, here’s your warm milk and honey, drink it up then close your eyes.

(sung to Brahms lullaby)

Lullaby, and good night,
Flowers close their sweet eyes,
Fishies sleep, froggies sleep,
And so must sailor boys,

Go to sleep, go to sleep,
Go to sleep, little sailor boy.

Many apologies. That’s just the favorite at my house. How’s about a duet?

I would, but I am laughing too hard at the imagery in Vestal Blue’s ditty. Go ahead, get started, I’ll join it when I get the diet pepsi out of my nose.

Pffft. Amateurs.

"We have cleared off the table, the leftovers saved,
Washed the dishes and put them away.
I have told you a story and tucked you in tight
At the end of your knockabout day.
As the moon sets its’ sail to carry you to sleep
Over the midnight sea,
Well I will sing you a song no one sang to me;
May it keep you good company.

You can be anybody that you want to be,
You can love whomever you will,
You can travel any country where your heart leads,
And know I will love you still.
You can live by yourself, you can gather friends around,
You can choose one special one,
And the only measure of your words and your deeds
Will be the love you leave behind when you’re gone.

Some girls grow up strong and bold,
Some boys are quiet and kind.
Some race on ahead, some follow behind,
Some grow in their own space and time.
Some women love women, and some men love men,
Some raise children, and some never do.
You can dream all the day never reaching the end
Of everything possible for you.
Don’t be rattled by names, by taunts or games,
But seek out spirits true.
If you give your friends the best part of yourself
They will give the same back to you.

Oh the love you leave behind…
When you’re gone."

Esprix

Ok, here’s a fave at our house:

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what’s on the other side?
Rainbows are visions
They’re only illusions
And Rainbows have nothing to hide
So we’ve been told and some choose to
Believe it
But I know they’re wrong wait and see

Someday we’ll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it’s done so far
What’s so amazing
That keeps us start gazing
What do we think we might see

Someday we’ll find it
The Rainbow Connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Have you been half asleep
And have you heard voices?
I’ve heard them calling my name
Are these the sweet sounds that called the
Young sailors?
I think they’re on and the same
I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it
There’s something that I’m supposed to be

Someday we’ll find it
The Rainbow Connection
the lovers, the dreamers and me

(Rainbow Connection by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher)

Well, struuter and Cranky, better make it a trio with plans to become a full chorus at this rate.I wonder how many other’s kids were rocked to sleep with Mama Cass, lol.

Chief, I can only remember one other right now but her you go:
A tiny turned up nose, two cheeks just like a rose,
So sweet from head to toes, that little Chief of mine.

Two arms that hold me tight, two lips that kiss goodnight,
To me he’ll always be , that little Chief of mine.

No one will ever know, just what his coming has meant.
To me he’ll always be someone who heaven has sent.

He’s all the world to me, he climbs up on my kneee,
To me he’ll always be that little boy of mine.

If this doesn’t work I guess we’ll have to set you on the washing machine for a while, huh? You’re too big for me to carry in from the car…

on candystripe legs spiderman comes
softly through the shadow of the evening sun
stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
looking for the victim shivering in bed
searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
suddenly! a movement in the corner of the
room! and there is nothing i can do when i
realise with freight that the spiderman is having
me for dinner tonight

quietly he laughs and shaking his head creeps
closer now closer to the foot of the bed and
softer than shadow and quicker than flies his
arms are all around me and his tongue in my
eyes “be still be calm be quiet now my precious
boy don’t struggle like that or i will only love
you more for it’s much too late to get away or
turn on the light the spiderman is having you
for dinner tonight”

and i feel like i’m being eaten by a thousand
million shivering furry holes and i know that in
the morning i will wake up in the shivering cold
and the spiderman is always hungry…

“Close your eyes and I’ll close mine,
Good night, sleep tight.
Now the moon begins to shine
Good night, sleep tight.
Dream sweet dreams of me
Dream sweet dreams for you…”

(whispering) Good night.

I had pleasant dreams all night – Thanks gals.

Special kudos to Falcon, struuter, Esprix(!), and 3BM!

VB – a Lullabye, Dead tune, and hilarious lyrics! Bonus points, dude!

A Swedish lullabye.

Videvisan
Sov, du lilla vide ung,
än så är det vinter,
än så sova björk och ljung,
ros och hyacinter.
Än så är det långt till vår,
innan rönn i blomma står.
Sov, du lilla vide,
än så är det vinter.
Solskens öga ser på dig,
solskensfamn dig vaggar.
Snart blir grönt på skogens stig
och var blomma flaggar.
Än en liten solskensbön:
vide liten blir så grön.
Solskens öga ser dig.
Solskens famn dig vaggar.

SoMoMom, you forgot the bridge:

“All of us under it’s spell
We know that it’s probably magic…”

"Chiefy mine, don’t you cry
Chiefy mine, dry your eyes
Rest your head close to my heart,
Never to part,
Chiefy of mine.

Little one when you play,
Don’t you mind what they say.
Let those eyes sparkle and shine,
Never a tear,
Chiefy of mine.

If they knew sweet little you,
They’d end up loving you, too.
All those same people who scold you,
What they’d give just for the right to hold you.

From your head down to your toes,
You’re not much, goodness knows,
But you’re so special to me,
Sweet as can be,
Chiefy of mine."

Esprix

knuckles a tear away

Esprix, what a lovely sentiment “Everything Possible” has…

oh, and MadPoet? You and Robert Smith are both disturbed. That’s no lullaby. shiver

Oops, forgot to add the standard lullaby in my house:

*When the sun is high in the afternoon sky,
You can always find something to do…
But from dusk till dawn as the clock ticks on,
Something happens to you…

In the wee small hours of the morning
When the whole wide world is fast asleep,
You lie in bed and think about the girl,
And never ever think of counting sheep…

When your lonely heart has learned its lesson
You’d be hers if only she’d call
In the wee small hours of the morning
That’s the time you’ll miss her most of all.*

Gee, that’s actually kind of depressing.
