He had several hits, including “Honeycomb” in 1957, and “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine”. Dead from kidney disease complicated by COVID.
Wow, I assumed he was long dead based on the song “Me and Jimmie Rodgers” from 1980 (which made him sound like an old-timey singer 40 years ago).
There were two Jimmie Rodgerses. I don’t know the song “Me and Jimmie Rodgers”, but I would guess it’s about the older one.
Oh that Jimmie Rodgers. I was like, “That’s guy’s been dead for 90 years!”
Jimmy (1924-1997) was an R&B singer. Another Jimmie (1897-1933) was a C&W singer (“The Singing Brakeman”). Jimmie (1933-2021) was the “Honeycomb” guy. I always liked his rendition of “The Wreck of the John B”).
There was also a Jimy Rogers.
