Part of it is: ‘Oh, cool! I’m diving on a sunken ship!’ The other part is that these ships are artificial reefs. They tend to attract sea life, so you can see different organisms (fish, coelenterates, echinoderms, cnidaria, etc.) gathered together in one place.
I dove HMCS Saskatchewan off of Nanaimo. Didn’t go inside, but there was lots to see outside. The brittle stars were really neat. I wanted to pocket a few scallops. There’s a token hidden somewhere on the outside of the ship that, if found, will net the diver an expensive diving watch when it is presented at the shop.
