Then you should have said that what you wrote was just your opinion, instead of presenting it as a statement of fact.

Don’t be ridiculous. This is the Pit; *everything * is just opinion here.

That’s just your opinion. I’ve seen the occasional fact creep in here ![]()
There are many reasons to pit Elton John. He is a self-righteous git. See here and here but the OP was lame.
I never really understood the need to “rate” pit threads, nor do I feel compelled to waste much time composing an OP that would merit a high rating.
I think Sir Elton went off the deep end when Diana died. That cheap rewrite of Goodbye Norma Jean was just plain bad.
I’m not sure when he went off the deep end, but I do know that I haven’t paid attention to him since the mid-90s and I’m surprised that anybody still does.

It was, ironically, when he stopped drinking and coking.

I agree. It was all downhill from that cliff edge.
I do assume, since he is not misogynistic, that Sir Elton was a fervent supporter of Maggie T.

Maggie Tabberer?

And this just in: Rock musicians are not reliable experts on matters outside of their limited purview.

Except Bono.

He’s a brilliant composer…

I don’t get this. Elton John is definitely a top flight composer of popular music. He’s almost up there with Lennon/McCartney in terms of pure music. He’s one of the greatest melodicists rock music has ever produced.

Except Bono.
I can’t stand that guy. Goes back to when I was a kid and he set my arm on fire. No, really. When I was 10ish or so, I had a very vivid dream that Bono set my arm on fire with matches, and stood there laughing at me as I stared at it, wondering what to do. He’s like my own personal humanitarian Freddy Krueger.

I guess he figured he already did it once, he could get away with it again. Especially since the second time, the figure in question was much more well-known.
(EDIT: I’ve always HEARD he rewrote it for Ryan White, but I can’t find confirmation that it was an explicit “cover,” as opposed to just a dedication.)
I don’t think it can be denied that a lot of the Hillary villification over the last couple of decades has been rooted in misogyny. Obviously that doesn’t mean that everyone who supports another candidate for the Presidency is woman hater, but I don’t think it can be disputed that she’s been the recipent of a lot of misogynist hostility.
There are frat boys going to her rallies and holding up signs that say “Iron my shirt.” If Sir Elton has been around her much, he’s probably seen some of the crap that gets thrown at her wherever she goes.
I am not a misogynist. I just think she’s a bitch.
Bah. Elton John.
Ever since he did an incredibly annoying post office advert in the UK a few years ago I’ve fantasised about beating him to death with a postal stamp while shouting “special delivery” and laughing nsanely. I just wish it was on youtube so you could all hate him more too.
Bastard.

Just a heads up: Elton doesn’t write the lyrics to the songs he records and never has.
His primary songwriter over the years (and the one who wrote both “Goodbye Norma Jean” and “Candle In The Wind”) has been Bernie Taupin.
