Sirius car audio question.

So, my parents gave me a pretty sweet Sirius radio for Christmas. I installed it directly to my deck (it’s an Alpine, I can check the model if necessary), as opposed to using the FM modulator, via the AUX IN, with an 1/8" male to RCA adapter.

My problem is that I can’t control the volume level. When the Sirius is on, it plays on my speakers regardless of the selected input (CD, FM, AM, AUX). When on AUX mode, I can turn the volume from 1 to 35, and it plays at constant volume. When on 0, it is muted and no sound can be heard.

Dopers, can you help?!

  1. On my Sirius radio, the output through the headphone jack is also what you send to an amplifier. The volume control buttons on the side of the unit control the volume, or that is they control how big a signal goes out this headphone jack. This would be true no matter what it was connected to. They don’t control the modulated FM signal.

  2. Your receiver should adjust the volume of whatever goes in its AUX jack, and should only amplify the AUX input if that’s what you selected. So, your trouble sounds to me like it’s the receiver and not your radio.

Thanks, Napier, I think this is spot on. I’m going to have to wait for the snow to melt a bit before I’ll feel like messing with it again, though!

Does anybody know why I wouldn’t be able to control the volume level of the AUX input with my deck? And why it plays at a low volume level no matter what input-type is selected?

Bump

I started messing with my stereo again, I thought I’d ask again if anybody knows if there’s a setting I have to… umm, set, to control the volume of the AUX IN port with my reciever?
