And they changed the format on 77 as well, no more Easy Listening.
I gotta pile on with the hating of the change over. XM subscriber here.
I’m pissed they got rid of UPOP (a Worldspace station with “the best of the US and the UK”, so they said. Dunno about the truth of the statement, but it sure played a lot of the hits I liked months before I heard them on radio stations in the US).
I’m also annoyed with the fact that they got rid of John von Soosten, the Programming Director of On Broadway. While he wasn’t the smoothest of talkers at times, he knew a lot of what was going on around Broadway, and so had a lot of interesting tidbits he could throw in between songs. To pile on to that, they also changed the way that the songs were displayed on the radios. They used to display the show the song was from as well as its title. Now they show who is singing the song and its title, so I have no idea what musical I might want to go listen to when I hear a song.
Oh, and Lithium, while not horrible, will never be a suitable replacement for Lucy. Not until they get back those funny interstitials they had, like
or
I miss Boombox. I listened to that all the time.
On the other hand, I have acquired MetOpera, so it’s not all bad.
EDIT: Area (33/38/whatever) isn’t actually all bad. They have lots of extended DJ sessions by the likes of DJ Icey, George Acosta etc. that are pretty good.
We on Sirius have always seen the artist, show, and title of the music on Broadway’s Best (now On Broadway). And they still have Seth Rudetsky and Christine Pedi, so all is well.
For me, the merger has been a net positive, so I’m not complaining.
Your BBC ate our U-Pop. The only things I’m annoyed with so far (I’m an XM sub) is that we lost XMX which was basically just Burried Treasure, Theme Time Radio and then hour long specials with individual artists and told us that we should all just go and listen to Deep Tracks. Now, I already listen to Deep Tracks, and it has Burried Treasure and Theme Time Radio, but only here and there. Before there was usually a pretty good chance one of them would be on.
Also, they got rid of E!, but I only listened to that one for the True Hollywood Stories, so I guess I’ll be okay.
Now, if they got rid of Old Time Radio (XM164) I would actually consider not re-upping.
BTW this whole thing better pan out, I just upgraded my radio from my failing SkiFi2 to the XpressRC.
ETA I didn’t pay $169, I found it for $109.
Super Shuffle went online only. If you listen to streaming audio from sirius.com you can still get Super Shuffle. My family was pissed when Super Shuffle went away. We’re a very eclectic bunch and Super Shuffle fitted us nearly perfectly. They didn’t play much in the way of standards, blues, classical, or show tunes, but it was a station 80% of us could agree on 80% of the time. Except during celebrity shuffles(shudder). Then 100% of us agreed we should switch the station to something else.
Enjoy,
Steven
There’s not a button on your receiver that lets you change the display? “Info” and “Title” are the buttons I use on two of my Sirius receivers.
I didn’t know about 43 - Backspin being lost, but I mainly stay on 20 - Octane, 24 - Lithium, and 28 - Faction.
I had XM from December 2001 until December 2006. Sadly, I went back to XM this October after trying Sirius for almost 2 years. I have been used to getting the shaft from them since February 2004, when they yanked Special X. I have lost the following stations, ALL of which were in my top 10 settings:
Special X (my #2 all-time favorite station)
MusicLab (my #3 all-time favorite) gone in 2006
Beyond Jazz (my #1 favorite station) gone this month
Fine Tuning (my #4 all-time favorite) gone this month
None of the above have been replaced with a similar Sirius station (I know Deep Tracks has a progressive show some nights, and the Sirius version of Beyond Jazz went away over a year ago).
Also: RIP Fred, Ethel, Lucy, Boneyard, and XM Comedy. At least those have poor Sirius imitations still airing.
My next monthly anniversary for XM is 12/4. I have until then to decide if my subscription is worth the money.
How do you get Super Shuffle when streaming? I have to click on a category like Rock, or Pop, and then only numbered channels are available. Am I missing something?
That 40’s station’s placement is a little jarring for me.
Picture it! Providence - 2008. A middle aged lady is in the car, flipping around, looking for songs she likes. The current top 40 stuff on 1 (I’m 45 so I never listen to it). 2 is The Blend, which has performers from, say, the last 30 years, 3 is Love Songs, also from after the mists of time and then, suddenly, without warning, there’s Der Bingle being just as embarrassing as when my mom listened to him while doing housework on a Saturday.
I assume you are from Sirius. On XM, 1 was err nothing, 2 was XMX (played all types of music). I don’t thing we had a 3 and then we have 4,5,6,7,8 and 9 which are all ‘decades.’
You must have gotten our '40’s on 4.
Yes, I’m from Sirius. I got it for Howard Stern.
The Boneyard is on Sirius 19, but right now it is AC/DC channel until JAN 2009.
Damn it! It’s gone. I was listenin to it a couple weeks ago. The other online channel, sir-2(a latino channel) is still there, but sir-1(super shuffle) is nowhere to be found. That sucks.
Enjoy,
Steven
What is/was super shuffle?
It was a mix station. It played music from a lot of genres and times. You’d hear the Beatles next to Trace Adkins, next to Fall Out Boy, next to Elton John, and then Metallica. Generally top 100 stuff, but occasionally they’d have something weirder or more obscure.
Enjoy,
Steven
