Ha-HA! Yes, Niles was the son-in-law who kept attempting suicide in a number of hysterical and fucked-up ways. He was awesome.
Thank you! I’m not sure I ever knew who that was. She was brilliant in my favorite scene from TPTB. The son-in-law shot Forsythe’s character accidentally, and kneeling beside him, she screams for a glass of water. When the butler hands it to her, she proceeds to dump it on the bloody carpet, screaming “This is an antique!”
For me, it would have to be Vyvyan from “The Young Ones”. Never before has there been such a lovely union of violence and hilarity!
Vyvyan: “This calls for a delicate blend of psychology and extreme violence.” (and hey, who else has created a cure for not being an axe wielding psychopath?)
Bah, everyone knows the only loveable character on cheers was Cliff Clavin (sp?).
I liked the neighbour - I think his name was Steve - on married with children.
And of course Alf was adorable
Steve Urkel on… - oh boy, I forgot the name of the show, but you know what I mean - made me laugh too.
It seems that I am always rooting for the misfits, heh.
Susan Sullivan (Kitty) on “Dharma & Greg”
Ryan Stiles (Lewis) on “Drew Carey”
Bull from “Night Court” - big, goofy, lovable, and I loved the way would smack his head. The early version of “D’oh!”.
-
Eldin the house painter from “Murphy Brown.” He had a great line in the Anita Hill hearings parody episode, “I’m no longer welcome where America shops.”
-
Coach Ernie Pantuso from “Cheers.”
-
Bernie Mac from “The Bernie Mac Show.” I love the way he breaks the fourth wall and talks to the audience, “America, you know what I’m talking about…”
-
Howard Borden from “The Bob Newhart Show.”
-
Larry, Daryll & Daryll from “Newhart.”
Archie Bunker
The entire cast of “Coach” when the show was set in Minnesota. (Every scene with Hayden and Stuart together should be in a museum somewhere)
Jimmy James from “NewsRadio”
Wade Swoboda from “Grace Under Fire”
Grace from “Grace Under Fire”
I know “Buffy” is not a sitcom, but has ANY show had so many great characters? Buffy, Willow, Giles, Anya(!), Spike, Drusilla (God I love her), Glory, Oz, the assortment of demons who speak with modern slang, the troll (Got any plump babies?)
Bernie is one of my favorite comedians ever!
The entire casts of Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies.
- The entire cast of “Barney Miller”. My favorite was Wojo.
- Roseanne’s sister Jackie.
Kramer on Seinfeld.
I liked the way that as the series progressed, he evolved from a slovenly complete loser to a not-quite-so-slovenly sort-of loser who seemed to be at peace with himself, exuding an air of self confidence.
He was still something of a dolt, however. Remember the “Sculpture of Limitations?”
Eric Cartman gets my vote. You may quibble about the merits of South Park, but there is no show without him.
Crikey, no one has mentioned Basil Fawlty yet?
cheers,
Ms Boods
Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzerelli, Happy Days- Heny Winkler
Samantha Stevens, Bewitched - Elizabeth Montgomery
Dr. Johnny Fever, WKRP - Howard Hessmann
Laverne D’Fozio, Laverne & Shirley - Penny Marshall
Jo Pulnachek, Facts of Life - Nancy McKeon
