In a sign that much of my brain capacity is woefully unused, I just realized the other day that most sitcom kitchens I’m familiar with are on the audience’s left. I really don’t think about these things, usually, I swear. I’d say it’s about a 2 to 1 ratio favoring the '70s. More modern ones usually have it on the right. Advances in set design?
Well lets see here…lets throw what ones we know about in a collection!
Full House- right
Family Matters- right
That 70’s Show- left
Friends- left, right, left again, and an unknown (Ross’s place)
Seinfeld- right
Step by step- right
What I like about you- right
Reba- right
Will and Grace- left
3rd Rock- left
Drew Carrey- right
Home Improvement- left
ok I’m tapped out.
[on preview, PantsFellow had listed every one off my list except these two, the noive!]
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, left
Cheers, centre
Happy Days - right
Lavern and Shirley (basement apt) - left
Dick Van Dyke Show - right
Bob Newhart - right
Everybody Love Raymond - right and right
Gilligan’s Island - ummmmmm
The Cosby Show -left
Married With Children -left
Newhart - left ( but it was an inn, not a house per se)
Three’s Company - right
Family Ties - I dunno. I’m guessing left.
All in the Family - left
Jeffersons - left
Sanford and Son - right
Brady Bunch - back and to the left
Frasier - right
Mary Tyler Moore - left and later, right
Simpsons - left, sorta
This thread would probably do better in Cafe Society.
I always thought of the kitchen in Home Improvement as being sort if in the foreground more than anything else. I guess it’s to our left.
I do have two to add:
Roseanne - right
Frasier - right
