"Sixteen Candles": Farmer Ted?

Farmer Ted. I don’t think they gave any background on that knickname, did they? Is it an inside joke? Perhaps some obscure 80’s reference I didn’t catch?

My WAG is that the character’s name is “Ted Farmer” and at rollcall one day the teacher said “Farmer, Ted?” and it stuck.

IIRC, the character referred to as “Farmer Ted” in the movie is the character played by Anthony Michael Hall.

According to my memory, which is backed up by IMDB, his characters real name is Brian Johnson. So Otto’s guess isn’t correct.

I’m racking my brain as to how this came to be. I’ve seen it enough, you’d think I would remember!

Now I’ve really got to know!!!

What a boob.

I should probably try looking up Sixteen Candles, not the Breakfast Club.

:: hangs head in ultimate 80’s shame ::

Carry on. You never saw me, and I was never here.

Grr.

:wally

Brian Johnson? He’s the singer in AC/DC! Is that really his name in the Breakfast Club?

There is no explanation of the Farmer Ted name, but scout1222’s WAG sounds like a good guess to me. Is this on DVD yet? Maybe there’s a deleted scene.

IIRC, Anthony Michael Hall’s character is called in the credits, “The Geek.” IMDB has it as “The Geek (Farmer Ted)”, but I’m pretty sure the film only credits him as “The Geek.”

I do recall when Ringwald introduces his character, she calls him “Farmer Fred” which he corrects as “Ted,” so that does seem likely to be his real name. Still lost to where the Farmer bit comes from though.

Not to mix my movies here, but look closer.

From the link:

Which explains why I remember him only being credited as “The Geek.” I haven’t seen it on film since '84 and don’t watch the spliced up TV version.
