Has anyone else read this book by Emma Donaghue? This was just… Hard to take, at times… A 14 year old girl, out searching for men to have sex with for money… and then she kills this woman that takes her in…
One thing that bothered me, though… What happens to Daffy? Doesn’t he get clapped? And if he does, doesn’t that mean that his wife will, and then their child will be born clapped as well?
And, what exactly is the clap?? I know it’s an STD, but what are the symptoms, etc.? Does it still exist today? I have never heard of it.
Okay, just one more thing, I promise! Does anyone have a picture of a slammerkin (the dress)? I searched the Net, but all I could come up with were reviews pertaining to this book… I would really like to know what it looks like. I’m sure I’ve seen one before, but I can’t bring an image to mind.
