I’ve just finished watching the movie-again. I noticed at the end that all involved parties deny that anything is true, but the author swears by his story. I have tried searching for information, but any search could be useless because some of the name have been changed.

So, my question is, does anyone here know of any research done on the accuracy of the book and movie?

There’s a lot of controversy as to the truthfulness of the book the movie was based on.

The latest, and most notorious, member is Lorenzo Carcaterra, whose new memoir, “Sleepers,” is purportedly a “true story about friendships that run deeper than blood.”

That’s bloody nonsense, according to many of the author’s colleagues and critics. As they noted, the anachronistic narrative of “Sleepers,” which tracks the twisted path of the author and three reform-school buddies who end up on assorted sides of the law, seems to have been spliced from Warner Bros. movies of the '30s and '40s, when James Cagney, Pat O’Brien, Humphrey Bogart, John Garfield and the Dead End Kids were appearing in such high-velocity sociodramas as “Angels With Dirty Faces,” “Crime School” and “They Made Me a Criminal.”

The New York Daily News reported widespread skepticism in Manhattan publishing circles about the veracity of Carcaterra’s memoir.

Last I heard, the argument was still going on.
