Slight Nitpick on Core Article

Regarding today’s Article on the Earth’s makeup: What’s at the center of the earth?

While I can’t fault the statement that “Its [the inner core’s] diameter is about 2400 km,” it is a misleading statement. A more correct way of putting it is that it has a depth of about 1200 km, which allows one to compare it in size more favorably to the sizes given for the depths of the outer core and mantle. As it stands, it reads as if the Inner Core is as deep as the Outer Core, and almost as deep as the Mantle. Made me blink, it did… :stuck_out_tongue:

Gibberish, apparently. Or perhaps I’m hallucinating again…

I see no gibbereish. The original article mixed radius and diameter when discussing the size of layers in the Earth. That’s (slightly) confusing. Better to have stuck with a common standard for each layer. Not quite as egregious as mixing miles & km & feet, but close.
