If a pregnant woman were killed and her body abandoned, would there be skeletal remains for both her and the fetus at some point in the future? Logically, it seems like there should be. That if someone came across the bones, it would look like an adult skeleton holding an infant skeleton. But I’ve never heard of anything like this being discovered so it’s got me wondering if maybe I’m missing something. Also–should there be bones left behind, would it be possible for investigators to determine if the infant was pre-born or new-born?
It would depend how developed the fetus was. I have seen pics of skeletal remains of a woman carrying a child that was well developed. You could very easily see the skeletal remains of both.
It is worth mentioning that fetal bones are very much less calcified than adult bones (not to mention obviously smaller); they are less durable, so they would certainly decompose before the adult bones did
