Who’re the most underhanded? Cell phone providers (once pager co’s), jewelers, or those “baby life insurance” companies?
Other suggestions?

Some lawyers, not all.
I’m thinking Payday Loan (AKA Check Advance) companies.
Oh yeah, near the top!!!
How did I forget them.
Auto mechanics. Most other businesses you can avoid being hosed by asking certain questions, or knowing what you’re getting into (reading the contract). I suppose lots of car knowledge helps when dealing with mechanics, but still, they’ll figure out a way to get you.
People who sell credit life for car loans, there is much better forms of life insurance available
•Political lobbyists.
•Pimps.
•Worm farmers. (Not immoral, just slimy in the literal sense.)
Bookies.
the diamond industry, as a whole.
Politicians, hands-down. Is there anything sleazier than a bunch of senators with multiple divorces solemnly talking about “the sanctity of marriage”?
Mortgage Brokers
Payday Loan Shops
Pawnbrokers
The sex industry (moral issues aside - just the way it’s run)
The tobacco industry
Repo men
Amway, hands down.
Banks would be a close second.
Most definitely. What’s really disturbing is the number of thses that have sprung up within a few miles of where I live.
What’s disturbing to me is that I worked for one of these places for several years - and now I can see the problems with it, but back then I could spout the company line about it to anyone who questioned the validity of such an industry.
Timeshare sales.
Advertising.
Trust me on this one. I speak from experience.
I’m going to go with “some defense attorneys and prosecutors.” The notion of defending/prosecuting someone you believe to be guilty/innocent for the enhancement of your own ego and purse is appalling to me–especially when underhanded tactics are employed.
The temporary placement industry. I worked in agencies for 10 years and let me tell you, if we weren’t screwing temps over, we were screwing clients.
Long distance telephone companies. Just check the Pit.
I actually read the thread title of “Slim-i-est” busness, and was going to suggest weight loss people.
What? Noone has mentioned used care sales??
