Slow antivirus scan on computer with SSD

Lately I have been retrofitting all my work and home computers with solid state drives because I believe ordinary hard disks are the biggest bottleneck in a computer.

But one of my computers has a problem. I built it from scratch last week with those AMD processors with built-in GPU (I don’t remember the exact model), 4 GB RAM and a Corsair Force GT SSD. It runs Windows 7 x64.

The problem is with the Security Essentials virus scan. While the other computers with SSDs scan several thousand files per second, the new computer scans files at a rate similar to a spinning disk HD.

I ran some benchmarks and the SSD speed is what it is supposed to be and I do not notice any lag while using the computer. The only problem seems to be with the virus scan.

What can I do to fix this?

This video shows how fast Security Essentials is on my other computers:

That’s weird.

I just turned on the problematic computer to make a similar video like the above. The computer then installed some updates and restarted. Then, I ran the antivirus and it ran as fast as in the other computers.

It seems the problem solved itself!
