There was a thread awhile back mentioning how automatics suck. Long story short, I said they didn’t Necros said they did, and we met up at Bandimere. (He’s really a fun guy, there was no animosity, reguardless of how I choose to word this. )
By the end of the evening, I’m just glad he and I weren’t racing together as he was progressively packing on experience.
The one race we did do together, I was quicker and he was faster. That is to say, I crossed the quarter mile line first, but he was running me down quickly. (There was a 0.100 second gap between he and I at the end.)
He’s got a ‘stock’ 3rd gen stickshift rx-7, I’ve got a 98 supercharged automatic Corvette. His car was about 700 lbs lighter, and I had about 100 hp on him, all told it made for a great evening as they were both in the same general performance envelope.
I had an ulterior motive though. Drag racing is just about the only performance related activity where an automatic has an advantage. So at the end of the day, all my times were pretty consistent…but Necros’ were geting progressively better as his technique improved.
And we’re still on speaking terms for Denverdope!
