It certainly seems that way.
Society wants to control you so much, that even if the rule of law decide you are to be killed, they still won’t let you kill yourself. Even when they are going to kill you.
Now back to the gang fucking.

You might want to check your facts on this. In which US states is suicide a statutory crime? (None that I am aware of, but then again, I’m just a foreigner.) In which US states is suicide a common law crime that is a holdover from colonial days (I’ll give you a hint – some, but not many). Is suicide a federal statutory crime? (Nopers.) Is suicide a federal common law crime? (Nope, couldn’t be 'cause of your Constitution).
Now you have specifically asserted that attempting suicide is a crime, so once you’ve come up with your cites as to which states still have suicide as a common law crime (and while your at it, you should also try to come up with the penalties – good luck on that one), I trust that you will then provide cites to which states have attempted suicide either on their books as a crime or as a common law crime, and also provide cites for any penalties for assisted suicide.
In short, you has stated “It’s a crime to even try to kill yourself.” I’m calling for cites from you to prove your assertion.
Correction to the final phrase of the second paragraph: Attempted suicide (not assisted suicide).
Now can we get back to talking about how evil somebody is?
" Currently there is no law against the act of committing suicide in the United States."
You learn something new every day.
Assuming he is serious and not a troll, I have known one person in real life just like him. They had a very traumatic and deprived childhood in a post war country, and it seemed to break some essential part of humanity in them. They are obsessed with following rules to absurdity, terrified of “getting in trouble”, obsequious to authorities to the point of humor. They don’t seem to feel any of the usual emotions associated with humanity.
Smapti, can you tell us about your childhood?
OK, Smapti, you’re stupid.
Well, it’s not like the people caring for the suffering humans would be emotionally affected in any manner. In a recently zombiefied but not closed thread, it was mentioned that in his ideal world, no one would be taught how to form lasting emotional bonds anyway. :dubious:
From what we know of him now, if you really expect any of us to care, you’re a better human being than I am.
My parents were chronically unemployed drug addicts. I spent most of my childhood homeless or living in motels. My father was verbally abusive to my sister and I and physically abusive to my mother, who attempted suicide twice before I turned 18. I never saw a dentist until I was an adult and the only times I got taken to a doctor were when I was severely ill. We could rarely afford luxuries like clothes that fit or soap or toothpaste. I missed field trips at school all the time because we couldn’t come up with the little bits of money that each student was expected to contribute, and I never did well because I was usually going in tired and hungry, and knew I had no chance of ever going to college anyway. I didn’t escape this until I was old enough to get a job and pay my own way in life.
Does that sate your curiosity?
Can the mods collectively pretend they think he’s a troll?
Two things I hold to be true.
First, everyone should stop paying attention to Smapti. Just put him on ignore. I already have. Any discussion with Smapti about what is right or what should be (or probably even what is) is akin to a discussion about human anatomy with an alien who refuses to acknowledge that “human anatomy” doesn’t mean the anatomy of homo sapiens.
Secondly, Smapti should speak the same way about such topics with people in his life. His boss. His friends. His family. His significant ot-okay, can’t say that with a straight face. Introduce them to the way you view the world. You might find that your life suddenly becomes very lonely and unfortunate. Maybe, just maybe, that might get you to reevaluate your phenomenally disgusting philosophy.
Didn’t they execute people for that?
So I should base my beliefs on what’s popular instead of what I can observe to be true?
You should recognize that when everyone disagrees with you, your observations about what is true are likely to be incorrect.
If this is the truth, yes I do think I understand your views better. Thank you.
Okay maybe not his family.
Family? I was sort of assuming that he was created in a lab.
Sometimes once something is broken, it can’t be fixed.
You exist in a society where the political process in effect creates rules based on majority opinions (with some limits). You believe the laws should override your persona beliefs but they are the result of popular opinion.
So by what seems to be your own presented value system in at least some cases your actions, if not your actual beliefs, should be based on what’s popular instead of what you observe to be true.
I am obligated to follow the law. Not to like it.
