They don’t want citizenship in Israel. They want citizenship in their own country, called Palestine. It may not be recognized internationally yet, but that’s what they want, AFAIK.

The important difference being that Hamas has no “the man,” by design. It’s a faceless collective. No single point of failure. The enemy can take out any number of individuals in the leadership without even putting a dent in the organization itself.

Smapti has always been odd, but it seemed to me that he was improving for several years as a poster and slowly ditching his most insane views (like “it’s wrong to help free slaves” and “MLK Jr. was wrong to break the law”). But his insanity seems to have returned - both in the Gaza threads and most recently, the Biden threads - Biden considering dropping out (Update: Biden denies) - #1572 by Smapti.
Yeah, he’s by far the most divisive motherfucker in that Biden thread, but calling everybody ELSE divisive.
You know that saying about assholes (if you meet one, then you met one, etc.)? It applies here.

Anyway, every time I see this thread, I can’t help but think the title should be something like “Smaptipitted” or “Smapitted”.

I agree with some of what Smapti is saying in that thread, except the part where it’s 100% the Dems will lose if Biden drops out, to exaggerate Smapti’s position only a little.
FTR though when I posted, “I’m seeing too much false certainty in this thread,” I was mostly referring to Smapti and not the poster who joined 4 hours ago and was banned 3 hours ago. Heck, I agree with this:
I butted heads with him in some of the Biden threads but it’s like arguing with a brick wall. There’s no chance anything you say will ever get through to him.
I’m not sure if he’s arguing in good faith or not because he’s a bit of a crazy person and they can often argue stupidly and stubbornly even in good faith. But he basically posted 200 different posts in response to people people who were considering whether the democrats might switch to Biden. He said basically “well none of the party officials are publicly undermining confidence in Biden, so that conclusively proves that there’s no discussion of this possibility within the party” as though the democratic party leadership is going to openly say “yes Biden is losing it, he’s not a good candidate, we’re considering replacing him” if that were the case. People addressed that absurd logic over and over again but there he is, still posting the same thing every single time people raise the possibility that Biden may step down or be replaced.
The most obnoxious argument he used in those threads is if you see with your own eyes that Biden is an 81 year old man that’s not 100% mentally sharp at all times, then you’re only falling for republican propaganda and can’t possibly be seeing reality. Apparently if a republican says that the sun will rise tomorrow and I witness the dawn, I’m a sheep that fell for their tricks and can’t think for myself.
I rarely block people on the boards (I think I’ve done it like 4 times in 20 years) but he’s tiresome and very prolific – he basically felt the need to respond to every single person who was trying to discuss the possibility of replacing Biden or Biden stepping down with the same poor arguments, as though we didn’t hear them the first 200 times.
I mean… that sounds like a lot of the arguments on that thread by multiple people. I wonder if Smapti stands out because he’s one of the few on the keep Biden side. Or if the other side is okay because they’re actually right. 
On the substance, I’m going to steal words and ideas from Josh Marshall. There are a handful of people who will decide whether Biden will step down. They include Pelosi, Jill Biden, Obama, congressional leadership. Nor more than a dozen. It’s them who will make the decision, along with Uncle Joe of course. This is out of the public’s hands, though the preceding’s decision will be shaped by public opinion of course.
The job of the broad anti-fascist majority is to pull the lever for the Democrat and defeat the wannabe dictator, not doom scrolling on message boards. Smapti has a habit of falling down rabbit holes; like most of his he should pivot to more consequential political activities.

No, there are other people pushing the “hold the course” agenda. But none of them are being ridiculous and crazy like he is. They recognize that there are upsides and downsides to their argument, that we’re in uncertain territory, that there are no great options and there’s a lot of nuance. Whereas he is in rigid, black and white, I am absolutely right and you’re all just falling for propaganda if you disagree fanaticism. And the quality of the arguments he repeats over and over again is very poor, like the absurdly childish “but public figures who would never undercut their own candidate aren’t undercutting their own candidate, so I’m right” argument he has parroted over and over.
Well you’re doing the opposite. No one likes to be on the same side as fanatics and it allows people on the other side to convince themselves that because your arguments are poor and your ability to evaluate reality is poor, that you’re more representative of your side than you actually are, and in their mind that discredits all of the arguments from your entire side. You weaken whatever side you’re on. You have made me do nothing but mentally check out to this whole situation and it is not entirely rational but now that I associate the idea of Biden staying in with your fanaticism I actually like it less and it’s making me less politically engaged.
You’re in denial and you’re trying to force us all to get right there with you. But you are doing absolutely nothing good for your cause and serving no purpose except to alienate people on your side.

Vote as left as left can be in the democratic primaries, and vote democrat in the generals. It’s really not that hard. Anything else is an acquiescence to fascism and so by definition not anti-fascist.
