If the military wants to drop a bomb on a certain house in Baghdad,or Podunk, or wherever using GPS, how do they obtain the co-ordinates to program the bomb? I can’t really imagine somebody standing along side the future target with a GPS and a radio talking to headquarters, reading off a list of numbers. It would look kind of suspicous.
You can have a laser system. If the laser knows its coordinates and gives a distance and bearing, then the coordinates of the target is known. Or you could read them from a map or satelite picture.
You’d be surprised. It could be done with satellite or photo recon photography also. Distance and azimuth from a known point.
Start with a satellite photo (or other such photos). You presumably have the GPS coordinates of certain landmarks from assets on the ground or from published civilian maps. Just find the building you want to hit and interpolate its coordinates.
