Smith/Rivera: Telling the Truth in Concurrent Meltdown Mode

It may be FOX, but Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera sure seem pissed about how things are going and aren’t making excuses.

Can you give people who don’t want to DL the video the gist of the situation?

Thanks.

But I thought Fox News was simply a shill for the GOP?

Hey, maybe they are ‘fair and balanced!’

Sure.

It’s on Hannity ad Colmes and they are talking to Shepard Smith who is on some interstate near the Convention Center and he is sayin in a most exasperated that there are people on this bridge (I think) that are not getting anything and what in the world is going on. Hannity or Colmes (HC from now on) say, “Well you know we see convoys of trucks ad supplies and medicine…blah blahblah. Why isn’t getting to thee people.” Shepard Smith says, 'I don’t know". SMith is making the point that there is NO ONE telling these people what to do, where to go, how to get help. And he has no idea either. He is astounded and can barely verbalize his dismay.

SO H&C go to Geraldo in the COnvention Center and Geraldo is equally dismayed and he is coming off as more angry. “Why are these people still here? Why won’t they let them leave on their own?” It is dirty, rancid, dark and no place for people to be staying. He holds a 15-month child in his arms that has been in the CC for many days and he starts crying, because he has a young child.

H&C cut back to Shepard Smith who is still clearly at the end of his rope in trying to come to terms with what he is seeing. He is concerned about blaming folks, but he is highly concerned that somebody, ANYBODY help these people. They then have both Geraldo and Smith on split screen and Geraldo again wants to know why folks can’t leave and Smith says they are locked in the CC?!?!! Geraldo holds a 10-month old and wants people to see it as a face of those who are suffering.

At one point H&C seem to be wanting to blunt a bit of SMith’s rhetoric, “Let’s put this in perspective…” Smith: “That’s all the perspective you need!” Then H&C want to make some nonsense point about it is getting better or whatever…

I’m sorry, the third paragraph, second sentence should say " He is **not[/n] concerned…"

Sorry for all the typos.

Damn you! Such a compelling description, now I must watch. Thanks for the synopsis.

Wow, Geraldo was losing his marbles. (in a good angry way)

It was about the only answer he could give. But, there will still be attempts to spin this and put a happy face on it.

Trying to remember where I heard this – I think it was on Countdown on MSNBC.

There was video of Geraldo escorting an older woman to a helicopter, carrying her small dog. According to the helicopter pilot, it was a second take – Geraldo took the woman back to the Fox truck, then walked her back over to the helicopter for evacuation.

Whether true or not, I didn’t have any problem believing it.

No. They’re not.

But this disaster is stretching the credibility of anyone who is trying to defend this administration. I think that most media outlets are finally waking up. Reporters are starting to get aggressive during WH press briefings. Most of these people realize that they’ve been asleep at the switch. While the wheels are coming off the wagon. (Gotta love those mixed metaphors…)

Shephard Smith is a good guy and a good reporter, and he’s pissed off. A lot of folks are pissed off, and it’s just beginning. Smith is from Mississippi, and this is hitting him hard. I’m hoping that he’s the beginning of a new generation of reporters who develop the name and the access to get answers to questions that others are afraid to ask.
