Smoke and heart freqency

I’ve often read that when you smoke your pulse is supposed to slow down for a while. Nonetheless, an occasional smoker, I’ve noticed that my heart beats faster after I’ve smoked a cigarette. What does this mean?

Nicotine is a heart stimulant, so it will speed up heart rate normally. However, if one’ s heart is racing due to nicotine withdrawal syndrome, smoking will calm one down and reduce theheart rate.
