Sneaky Sequels

T. Ernesto Bethancourt wrote The Dog Days of Arthur Cane, in which the hero was turned into a dog. He could communicate with other animals in that form.

Bethancourt also wrote a series of mysteries about a detective named Doris Fein. In one, she takes her dog to the vet–Dr. Arthur Cane, who “jokes” that he can talk to animals.

“Yippie-ki-yay, you kind, brave, warm, most wonderful human being.”

Of course, The Mysterious Island has the distinction of being a sequel that takes place before the earlier book. With no time travel involved.
