SNL dirty talk skit from last night

I think this was the best skit of last night.

Kept getting distracted by Ansari having to physically move his head so he could see around her and keep reading the cue cards.

It was funny (my SO LOL’ed pretty hard at it).

Overall, a solid episode. Worst sketch IMHO was the “Bookworm” one, because I kept expecting/hoping they’d throw us a curve but they kept taking it in the obvious direction.

Sorry I can’t get past how annoying her voice and mannerisms are.

That was good. Haven’t watched the show yet, so now I’m psyched.

I think the La La Land interrogation scene was the best of the night, personally.

The guy reporting from the Friend Zone during Update was pretty much spot on. I’ve been there. Che’s “Nah, that’s your job.” was perfect.

I don’t watch SNL but happened to catch that sketch last night. I thought the concept was funny but I found it hard to enjoy because the actor playing the male cop NEVER looked at Ansari while talking to him, he constantly read the cue cards. Annoyed the hell out of me.

Like I said I don’t watch the show, but is this normal? Can’t this cast act without reading the cards?

I loved that girl. That sketch was solid gold.

It’s always been that way, for the most part. He was also doing his best not to crack - Anzari was getting to him.

I believe that the scripts are being written and rewritten up to the dress rehearsal. So it’s understandable that the cast doesn’t have their lines memorized.

Yeah, her awkwardness is what made it for me.

That dude is the one with the annoying voice.

I’ve heard that it’s actually frowned upon by Lorne for the cast/guest to memorize the lines and that they are supposed to use the cue cards instead, precisely because it is such a work in progress right up to time of the aired sketch(not just rehearsal, according to Bill Hader). I can’t swear this is the case, but I recall reading that - perhaps right here on the Dope.

It’s not Shakespeare, it’s rapidly-changing, live sketch comedy. I don’t let little things like cue-card reading bother me.

Cue cards? What is this, the '50s? They use teleprompters.

Cue cards.

Unless I’m being whooshed. I’m getting old and cant tell anymore.

I liked this sketch a lot, I hope it’s a sign that the writing’s gonna continue on what my fuzzy memory is recalling as a recent upswing.

Yeah, Saturday Night Live still uses cue cards, not teleprompter.

Good link; thanks.

Since this is the only thread about this episode, I will say I thought this was a great episode end to end. Beck Bennett is doing a solid Putin now - a fun cold opening. Aziz Ansari killed on the opening monologue (compared to Felicity Jones!!), there were some great skits, including this one, the Chicago/Conway one and a few others. Weekend Update had many laugh out loud moments from both Che and Jost, and Leslie Jones’ persona was used really well this time.

And the sincere singing of To Sir, with Love? I got verklempt.

Well done.

Speaking of dirty talk, Leslie Jones on Weekend Update cracked me up with “Charles Know Who He Is.”
